stadium rezone postponed by Nicholas G, Licata A public hearing on Stadium properly rc-zoning set to follow. Monday night’s Freeport Vilbgc Board meeting was abruptly adjourned. Special Village Counsel Harrison J. Edwards announced Developers Fred and Joseph Scalamandrc’s decision to withdraw their application for re zoning of the controversial Stadium property. He said the reason for the withdrawal a discrepancy between the village’s interpretation of their own laws and the county’s interpretation of those bws. In order for the plot to be re-zoned the county must approve the re-zone Jby reviewing and imcrprciing village. law. And, after doing so, the county .refused' the rc-zoning'pf the parcel to ’’Industrial B,” According to Mr. Edwards, the county feels that the plot is 3,000 square feet ^ o rt of the! 20^000 square foot minimum required for “improvemcni.’* Mr. Edwaids contends that minimum would only apply if the . ‘’improvement” was structure. Alt lnq\iiries Are ConlidenhAl. added that rather than disagree with the county, the developers decided to withdraw their request for rc-zoning to “Industrial D” and re-apply for a re zone to “Industrial.” This, according to Mr. Edwards, will make the owners subject to stricter regulations, but would be more likely to meet with county approval. Mr. Edwards said that it will take about four weeks before a new hearing will be set. The rc-zoning docs not affect the sub-division, which is still being reviewed by the vilbgc planning board. The vilbgc and the county did not disagree on every issue discu^cd at the . board meeting. Nla>*or Storm requested and received board approval for an exchange of roads between the Village and the county. The exchange is an effort by the village to consoli^ic its . roads for belter maintenance. The village will also benefit because the county has agreed to rc-surfacc all the roads that require resurfacing before the exchange. . Under the agreement, the following roads will be. transferred to the vilbgc: Bedell Street from President Street to South Main Street; Church Street from Merrick Road to South Main Street: Railroad Avenue from Guy Lombardo Avenue to South Main Street: Guy Lombardo Avenue from Front Street to Atlantic Avenue; and South Main StrecUrom Hen^ Street to Broadway. The county will receive Henry Street . from Merrick Road to Broadway and Brooksidc Avenue frerh Sunrise ■ Highway to the VUbge line.
