Both of these activities are fund raisers for The Business Women’s Scholarship presented yearly to a Freeport ‘ High School student graduating in June. ' Vice President Lynn Baum 'introduced Ellen Donohue from the Nassau County Red Cross. Ms.' ■ Donohue gave the businesswomen a comprehensive view of the f^liviiics of the Red Cross including its tie-in with the Armed Forces when an emergency, situation makes it necessary for a soldier/sailor to be located immediately. . . She elaborated on the Red Cross’s assistance in the California earthquake and. more recently, with die airplane disaster on Long Island. In addiuon to its help in various emicrgencics, the Red Cross has a volunteer corps of about 2,000 some of whorh arc involved in transporting' senior citizens and handicapped persoris to necessary shopping, doctor’s appointments, clinics, etc.. Lillian Cositore spoke briefly on upcoming events to be held in the Viliage mentioning the Boat Show in May at which the Fishing Fleet will be blessed, as well as the June Summer Festival. She urged all members to support the events taking place in our VUbgc. . Christine O’Connell Super skater! .1 Frwport skater Christine O’Connell won a third phcc trophy in Freestyle 4 at the ISIA (lee Skating Institute of America) Competition held at the .World’s Fair lee Skating Rink in Flushing. It was her first lime entering a skating competition. Christine, who lives on St. Marks Avenue, is none yean old and a fourth grade, studerit at Gibljn Schoof. She started skating at the age of five, and taking lessons at six. She skates and takes lessons.at Freeport Recreation Center where her coach and teacher is. Olga Ullmann. Christine has performed in the recreation centre’s annual ice. show for the past four years; as a sol.obi the past two years, and in a duel three years ago.
