Also cited in the Board’s deci sion was the persistance of such complaints over .an extended period of time despite several meetings with Cannon's’ owner and the awarding of lOadditional medallions to the Company some time ago. The Village will award ten medallions to Thomas Landuc- d-s DBA Village Taxi of Free port to operate cabs of 1986 vin tage or newer, subject to the new Company obtaining an office'and waiting room within short walk ing distance of the railroad station. The Village will seek to raise fees for pick-up .of spayed animals froin the current S4.3S to $8, and unspayed animals from $10.35 to $14. Fees for the redemption of dogs which have . been caught loose wili rise from $20 to $30 for the first offense, and from $40 to $60 for the second offense. .Under its con tract with the Town of Hemp stead, the Village must pay the Town dog warden $88 for each overtime call, whether or not a pick-up is successful. The matter was referred to Village Counsel William Clacken for amendment of Section 78 of the Village Code, and a public hearing will be scheduled. During the public portion of the meeting. Police Chief Joseph King answered complaints from several residents. Louise Simp son spoke of what she said was open drug dealing at the comer of Avenue and asked, \Why does everyone see things except the people who can stop it?” “When We slop someone we must have very strong knowl edge,” Chief king told Mrs. Simpson. “We need more than suspicion,” he said, adding that the Department^ drug arrests had almost doubled over the pre vious year. Responding to a Graffing Place resident who cited nine accidents on the street which have caused injury'and damage to homes and. probity, Chief King said that a traffic survey con ducted four years ago had shown conditions did hot warrant con trol devices, but the survey had recently been reopened and “should be complete in about six months.” Power generation again became a subject for debate, and residents Saveriq Scammacca and Vincent Creco reiterated their opposition to the possible introduction of an Independent Power Producer to the Village, maintrining that the Village should seek additional hydroe lectric power from upstate and Canads.
