At the Ino and Jack Kay Hos pice for the terminally ill in the Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospi tal in Jerusalem, 12 radio-tape recorders were presented to the patients. Mrs. Soson explained that the hospice is the only Jewish institu tion in Jerusalem that attends to the terminally ill in the last period of their lives. Riith.Shahal, the director of the hospice, told the Nassau lead ers, “It IS our aim to give strength to the terminal patient by show ing him that we have faith in his ability to do things, to cteate, to feel - we want him to believe that he is still important, and will be important till he dite. Our main tools are to listen and to Under- - stand, to help him to reach into his innermost souL* One of the patients in the hos pice, Ruth Blank, told the N assau group that she bad immigrated from Philadelphia ten years ago; she said that the tape recorders would enrich theit Uves. At the H a d a ssah-Y o u th Aliyah village of Neurim, a youth village for immigrant children and children from disadvantaged areas and deprived bqmes^ they met immigrant youngsters from Ethiopia. They are studying sub; jects nn^ng from computer sciences to working with earth shovelling machines. Mrs. Soson summed up: “Par ticipating in this mission ^ v e its a very meaningful experience, and insights such as we had never had before into what Hadassah means to Israel. It is great'to m with oneY own eyes the results of one's labors. We ail work very hard for Hadassah, but we will now work hardn than ever.” From the terminally ill patients the group went to meet patients at the opposite end of life - the ■ premature babies in the Goldberg NechNatal Unit and in a unique intermediaiy care room where mothers are taught how to take care of “preemies” after they get well and leave the incubatois. Another highlight of the mis sion was the celebration of a batmitzvah in the synagogM o n . top of the Massada mountain in the Negev desert In the depths of the Negev .desert, the mission visited.
