Emma Reid cheered as the FHS Red Devils crushed a tough Ocfanside squad 39-12. Running backs Cory Brewer and Scott Richardson contributed strongly to a massive 3S0 yards gained oh the ground and Jean Pierre Lorengarde ran for three touch downs. The Devils’ offensive line, led by Cary Huggard, Darren Anzelone and Charles Johnson, provided a balanced attack on the bapkis Oceanwde team. With a current record of three wins and two losses, the Red Devils can be virtuidly assured of a playoff spot if they win (wo of their next three gaihes, spurred by their Home coming triumph. Saturday’s game will take place in Port Washington. A ciapaeliy eroaad tiwnad out daaplta inalamoM Freeport welcomes 71st Guard Infantry Babylon Turnpike became a sea of ‘’camouflage” last Sunday as close to 600 members of the 71st Infantry of the New York ’Army National Guard’s First Battalion in full battle dres^ offi- cUdly marched into their new Freeport Headquarters. . rolling into the Armory at 63 Babylon Turnpike were a pro- . cession of jeeps and anti-tank units, accompanied by the Amer ican Celtic Pipe B a ^ of Long Island and the Nasuu County Police Drum and Bugle Corps. The ”move-in” event ctrincided with the 138th aniuversa^ of the Repmenfs founding in New York City. Welcoming the troops to their new home in the Village was Mayor Dorothy Storm, sur rounded by uniformed digiutar- ies oh the reviewing stand. ”I am overwhelmed 1^ the enthusiasm, vim and vigor with which your uiut came into our Village,” . Mayor Storm told the ranks of assembled guardsmen. While saying she hoped there would be no future ”citil disasters like hurricane Gloria,” the Mayor added that '^it is comforting to know yon will support pur efforts.” She declared October 23 “71st Infantry Day.\ The regimenth commander, lieutenant Colonel William A. Baxter, assisted Mayor Storm in cutting the blue and gold ribbon and told residents and dignitaries assembled for the event, ”We are . a Long Island battalion and are happy and proud to be here.”- Following the ceremonies, Freeporters were invited into the Armory, decorated with yards of camouflage netting, weapons, vehiel^ and memorabilia of the battalion, for a three-hour open house. He was invited by student Susan Bruno as part of ajsr^eet by senior year classes- taking the newly mandated,“Par- ticipation in G o v e rnm ent” course. Senator Moynihan arrived at approximately 11:36 a.m. and was greeted by high school prin cipal Ranier Melucci, course teacher James Morrow, social studies churman Roy Elden, administrators and Ms. Bruno. Behind the entourage were cameras and reporters from Channel 7 sind Channel 12 who helped create a feeling of excite ment which soon ran through the blading. The group proceeded to the principalis of&M where Senator Muynihan spoke to Ms. Bruno and Jo Mr. Melluci and Mr. Eldeh. Ms. Bruno was. inter viewed by reporters, and she answered questions with a deft ness that belied her youth.
