The move is part of a new highway Safety campaign entitled “New York is Tough On Speeders.\ The state D epartm ent of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is work ing in conjunction with the state police to enforce the 55 mph speed limit. The main objective of the campaign is to reduce traffic accidents and save lives. The “T o ^ h On Speeders\ campaign is'a direct response to last year's six percent increase in New York state's fatality rati Under the progTam,-tit6uov- erno'ris Traffic Safety Committee has provided an S800.000 grant to fund a d d itio n a l speed enforcement patrols with the state police. Many of these p a tr o ls’ will use non-radar enforcement techniques to moni tor speeders. They will use c m - puter devices, unmarked cars and aircraft.
