The 1962 calendar, which Is being distributed by the local ^vertisers who made its publication possible, features many photographs of the Village taken by local photographer Joseph OeSalvo and provided by the Village. The production and design of the calendar was done by Kiwanis member John Muscaro. presdnr Public Works Depart ment's Albany Avenue site to Fred and Joe Scalamandre, for their company headquarters, adds $375,000 to the revenue, line. Last year, the present year’s budget was reduced by $300,000 in anticipation of that land sale. The balance of the sale price, and the 10% of the State’s special grant will be used toward the renovation of the now unused village sewer plant for the Public Works department’s new ex panded headquarters. While additional funds will be needed for the job, this will reduce some of the interest costs a strictly bonded project would bring. Expcnae Item* \3p The budget shows a jump in the cost of employee benefits in cluding a $100,000 increase in hospitalization insurance caused by state-wide increases in,Blue Cross/Blue Shield rates. An additional $65,000 in retirement benefits is in the new budget due to the raise in police salaries. A contingency figure of $300,000 reflects', among other items, the wage contract with the Civil Service Employees Associa tion currently under negotiation. The increase in the cost of sanitation services also shows up in the proposed budget. The $924,000 total figure in sanitation costs is an increase of $348,000 over 1981-82. When the switch to ' costs, all paid out of bond issues with resulting high payments . over the years reflecting interest charges. A large portion of such engineering costs, village sources say, could be saved with the new section. Part of the Public Works Department, the Engineering Section would be headed by the present 5uperintendent . of Public Works David Lovejoyv a professional civil engineer who was a highway engineer with the State of I\eleware before coming to Freeport. \—-v - f o n .y o c i r * Complete Dinners Served At6P.M .& 8P.M . 10 P.M. The tentative budget also shows an expenditure of SIOS.OOO for a new municipal engineering •operation, which the Village govemnient believes would have long term saving value in the cost of street improvements ^and other major projects. According to village figures, engineering costs for such projects have added 20-30% to the actual construction Village Mayor William H. White commenting on the new engineering section, said that “such innovative steps taken by the Village over the past sever^ ■ years had prepared the govern ment to deal with today’s infla tionary economy more effectively that might have the case.” White listed, as other cost-effective, innovative steps the switch ffom municipal sanitation, the consoli dation of operations and the decrease in the number of employees through attrition, and the move to self-insurance taken in 1978. White said this last had saved the taxpayers SSSO.OOO so far and brought in an interest income of $202,000 further off setting taxes. CELEBRATE a n d R IN G -IN th0 1 ni0i#£eR Thurs. Besides their basic role in chewing, baby teeth aid in proper speech, give form to the face and. most Important, hold the space for the perma nent teeth which will eventual ly replace them. Although permanent teeth begin forming even before birth, some are not ready to erupt into the mouth until age 12 or 13. If one or more of the baby teeth are prematurely lost or even just badly decay ed, these permanent teeth may come in crooked or be prevented from erupting at all due to lose of adequate space Stuart H.
