Harry Ebbets, a well-known welterweight and middleweight boxer in the 1930’s, died October 28 at the. age of 70. A long-time Freeport resident, Ebbets v.’on 175 out of 189 professional fights in his ten year boxing career. He . himself wm never knocked out, never failed to go the whole bout, ■ and 99 of his wins were the result of knock-outs. Following his career as a fighter, he became one of the most respected referees in New York. He' was the referee involved in the controversial decision in - the bout between Emile Griffith and Gaspare Ortego.' Ebbets own boxing ACCEPTANCE INTO NEW PROGRAM.
