J l men icmauio aw “ •»- www*w««a.»r w .nw ^ u expositions and their credibility against the positive accomplishments of those in office, ALWAYS KEEPING IN MIND, however, the threatening alternative represented in the person and philosophy of the opposition. It is significant, therefore, that Elaine Horowitz, in an abortive attempt to d i s c r ^ t the dynamic stewardship of the indefatigable Congressman Lent, had to resort to pluddng cnit of context certain votes cast by Lent in The Congre^ winch were, by her structure of values, sufficient cause for him Co suffer the . ultimate ex communication - failure to win the endorsement of the L.I. Federation of Labor. That there o u ^ t to be more politicians with Lent’s moral capability to withstand tiie pressure of the labor union m o n ^ lists to .further inflate the economy, is a hopeful value Mrs. Horowitz, in her unquestioning subordination of the public good at the sacred shrine of the union altar, might never manage to understand. The people can now ^ assuned, thanks to M r^ Horowitz’s exposure, that in addition to all other Special interest groups, Nmman Lent is alra iiinmj^ne to the blancU 8 hment 9 ^df ;ti)e union bosses,, who. In their nsrrowhnd lim it^ judgement, o^ten work to th^ ultimate iliradvantage: o f their own memberships, let alone that of the.unorganized and helpless masses. No, not one of Horowitz’s “documented” d arts was able to penetrate Lent’s hide toughened by a political p ^ o rm a n c e that must command the loyalty of4ts benefactors if loyalte itself is not to lose its value. Lent displayed the same fervent zeal for his job as did his predecessor, Allard Lowenstein, whom he defeated and displaced; the vital difference being, however, that the local constituency had no longer to suffer the degrading humiliatioo of their R e p re^tative perpetually pandering to bands of sick degenerates waving Cong flags. This was a debasing concept that even a relatively liberal- leaning Brooklyn recently voted to reject in a Democrat primary . Much the same can be said of the Scrota assault on Norman Levy’s position. A freshman State Senator, who, in his first two years can boast the authorship and PASSAGE of 44 new and b e n ^ d a l laws for his State, should have little to fear from the nit-picking of a political neophyte, no matter bow b r i^ t and articulate. Scrota's attempt to bury Levy in Rockefeller's Albany Mall mausoleum brought more applause than implication. Levy was busy busting racketeers as an Assistant Nassau County D.A. when the “Pharoah” of N.Y. launched his modern day “pyramid.” Hiebillion-doUarmallflascoisa personal blunder for Rocky alone to live down and in no way contaminant of the superb record of young Levy. As mentioned before in this column, it takes courage to siq)pQrt and enforce laws, and profound wisdom to interpret them meaningfully However, it requires creative genius to author good laws and a capacity for leaderehip to get them passed thraugh two Houses of Legislation and a Chief Executive, ever mindful of their power. This district is twice blessed with two such law-given in the persons of Norman Lent and Norman Levy. There are issues on which 1 could disagree with either man most vehemently; yet the preponderance of performance of both of these legislators overwhelms thefew negatives and commands my deepest admiration. No doubt, comes Election Day, Nov. 7th, it will their constituents also.
