Diamond of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has announced that the Department-will be holding a public hearing on its propo^ water resource management policy for Long Island on June 15 at the Nassau County Executive Building in Mineola, at 2-5 and 7- 10 P.M. Commissioner Diamond said, “We ate holding a hearing on water management to aid in the determination of costs, possible alternatives, acceptance and environmental impact of such management. “ At present and for the foreseeable future, drinking water supplies on Long Island will be dependent upon ground- water sources. The groundwaters are becoming polluted and ocean saltwater is encroaching. The population is showing dramatic growth calling for -ever m ore w a ter. The groundwater table is dropping, and lakes and streams are gradually drying up. A proper water management policy is necessary to effectively combat these conditions.” with the active flesel.
