'Why then, when aid is offered In this field, do we refuse it? Are we too proud to accept help? ' Are we proud of our illiteracy rate? Has the “talking typewrit er\ been proved useless? Is it because we don’t like our Super intendent of Schools? I submit, that when the largest federal grant in aid ever oftored to a school district is. rejected, the reasoning behind the decision should have reflected the profes sional opinion of the many teach ers in Freeport who know in timately the reading problems of their students. This was not done. I do hope that in the very near future some plan may- be adopt ed that will improve the read ing ability of our students. Un til then, we will get along.
