Multiple Sclerosis is a progressive chronic disease of the central nervous system which has crippled more than 3,000 in Nassau County; and WHEREAS, no known cause or cure has as yet been found for these M3 victims who are mainly between the ages of 20 and 40; and WHEREAS the Nassau County Chapter, Inc., of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society participates with other chapters in the nationwide research program which is the Hope for this mystery disease; and WTJEREA3 It also participates In the nationwide public education pro gram by supplying doctors and families of MS patients with new scien tific developments as they are released; and WHEREAS, Ute Nassau County Chapter, Inc., provides Individual therapy and home therapy assistance under the supervision of 5 consultant physiatiists and WHERE AS It helps to arrange transportation to and from the Treatment Center at S34 m m s AveHiie;'Albertsoh7'New yo^J£^'•‘dhtf 'WHERBAS'ltr'also■•^^ vldes occupational therapy as well as Hobby Sessions once a week for MS patients; and WHEREAS it supplies wheelchairs, canes, crutches and other aids; and WHEREAS the Nassau County Chapter, Inc., has a long waiting list of Multiple Sclerosis patients to be helped; and WHEREAS, the need tor funds is imperative to help meet its $75,000 goal for 1061. NOW THEREFORE, I do hereby proclaim that May 1-7 be designated a$ the Multiple Sclerosis Hope Chest Crusade and that Ihe week be set aside as the period for the MS Hope Chest March In this community so that the drive for funds may be honored by a generous donation given either to a volunteer whow ill call on you or by sending it directly to the Nassau County Chapter. KEGLER’S KORNER Many season long league records were broken at the Freeport Bowl as high scores and high series were the order of the night. As a result the standings are very close, the season draws to an end. Kahn's Music Co. with three men over the 200 mark, and four men well over a 500 series, beat the Atlas Jalousie Team in all games. Community Ambassador Project The Freeport Community Council In conjunction with Freeport High School is again sponsoring the Community Ambassador Plan of The Ebeperiment In International Living. Last year we were able to raise funds to send our first Ambassador, Harlee GrJlmon, from PVeeport High School to Holland for the summer of 1660 . This program Is national in scope and has the .support of many worthwhile organizations—Industry, service clubs, veterans groups,' P.TA.'s. women's clubs, churches and individuals It is a community project and to be successful needs the support of everyone in the Village. The recall division of the Free port Chamber of Commerce has designated Monday, May 1 from 6 to 9 P.M. as Community Ambassa dor Bale.s Day. The participating merchants will donate a percentage Uielr sales that evening to us. We appreciate the interest and cooperation of the Freeport mer chants and want to support them to the best of our ability. Salanltrl's 210. — Prudential Theatre over Horrlgan's Liquors in all games, as Frank Del Rosso shot a 218 — Team No. 9 a victor in all games over Modell’s, with Day of the former with a 213, and Friedman of the latter, a 200 score — Barasch's team won over Mead- owbrook Lumber as Jack Morrison broke through with scores of 204 and 214. FREEPORT ELKS PLAY HOST TO HANDICAPPED CHILDREN By GEORGE BENNETT SMITH Saturday, the Freeport Lodge of Elks. BPOE #1253, were hosts to over 100 children who were selected by the Nassau County Department of Welfare and the Roosevelt Center for the Cerebral Palsied, for an afternoon's outing at the Clyde Beatty Circus. Commack, L. I., N. Y. Under the guidance of Richard Punk, Youth Activities Chairman of the Elk-s. the Children assembled i ^ ----------------------------------------— at the Elks Clubhouse, and wererfoj. . .. the homeward Journey, to the transported by buses to the Circus | Elks Lodge and their respective where they had special seats re- • .pomes, thereby concluding a most served for them on the floor the Long Island Arena. For the majority, this was their first experience a t a genuine Circus, and all were completely engrossed in the simultaneous performances held in all three rings. I t would be impossible to state which type of act was the most favored, as all received the rapt attenton of these delighted youngsters. During the performance, tnem- bei-3 of the Freeport Lodge of Elks, and their DOE Club served refresh ments to all the children, the cotton candy being especially favored. At the conclusion of the show, the chil dren reluctantly boarded the buses memorable and enjoyable day. Exalted Ruler. Clyde M. Squlrr.s, accompanied the children on the outing, and praised both the mem bers of the Welfare Department who accompanied the children and the members of the Elks Lodge for their continual supervision at this outing, as this was a grave responsi bility on the part of the Elks.
