Dr. Scott continued to serve as p chairman of the Freeport Memorial ; Library’s board of trustees until his : death, having helped to found tTie institution and become a trustee 39 years ago. He was also a founder and first president of . the Freeport Interfaith Clergy Council, and Chaplain of Spartan Masonic For the past 28 years Dr. Scott •was dnplaln of the Fire Depart ment which he Joined (Truck- Oo: ■No. 1) in 1919. He contributed lead ership and loyal ^effort to- nmny ICcaT acflvltles ' and was widely known for his friendly disposition, 'combined with a- keen sense o f hu- ‘ The popular clergyman was member., of the Episcopal Diocese’s stAsidj^S '- conunlttM, secretaiy of th'c^ [i^peens and Nessair-Archdeac- bnry .and president of the Long Island Clerical League. In 1953 Hbhop James P. De Wolfe awarded him the distinguished service cross of .the diocese. Berkley Divinity School conferred upon him the hon orary degree-of -Doctor-of-Sacred Theology In J954. Friends from' all over .Nassau County crowded into the Episcopal Church Saturday ' morning for largely attended funeral services at which Bishop De Wolfe officiated. Burial followed in Greenfield Ceme tery, Hempstead. Hie Fire Depart ment held services Friday night at the Chester A. Fulton 6i Son Fune ral Home. . A fter being a deaccn a t St. James' Church, Hartford, he was advanced to the priesthood In 1904 and later became curate of Christ Church in. WllUamsburgh. Brooklyn. Chosen rector of the Freeport-church, he c'onducsted hb first Mrvice' h ere hi '1914. Six months later he married the former Amelia Doughty. .Besides his wife. Dr. Scott is sur vived by. two sons.
