Leader: The high point of conversation these-days in Freeport and^lso in many other areas Is the rising cost of—cwistructlon. We at Freeport hove very little time to make a de cision that will affect us financially !for -some tim e .-I r^er, of .course, to tiia extra expenditure of $875,000 -the Board of ^ u c a tlo n claims nep- !essary to complete ithe proposed high school. No doubt about the^ ^ f t d Is 'p r e s r a t^ w l ^ a m(»t ^ailenging problem. Their solution to this chal lenge is to request the additional However, the procedure followed, by private Industry would be some what different. The design of the proposed facility would be reviewed, discussed and redesigned many times If necessary without chang ing Its basic function in an effort to keep within the alloted funds appropriated for the project. Construction Project Co ordinator I am very much aware of the rising costs of construction and equipment: however, my con tention is that a high school can be— desl^edt-— ejmstrupted—--and: equipped'without sacrifice of nec essary facilities for -the present al lotted funds of $4,275,000 if the proper approach Is made. I would suggest a review of the project frbm the design standpoint rather than the complicated analy sis of tabulating contractors’ pro posals based bn drawings and presented whereby so many omis- specifications as they have been slons and alternatives point to what we do not get instead of what we had hoped for or knUcipated.
