Through arrangem e n ts w ith Mr. Guy Lombardo, Tuesday, August 23 has been s e t aside as M ental H e altn N ight at the cool, colorful M arine T h e a tre, Jones Beach. The Arabian Nights, starring Laurltz Melchior, as the sultan, is a fabulous musical extravaganza, superbly delightful to both the eves, and ears. The moonlight, the stars, and the ocean breezes provide an exciting setting in which to view it. Mr. W iner said: “I know this will be an opportunity to spend a pleas ant sum m er evening with the fam ily. It will also provide an apportu- nity for people to enjoy themselvea while contributing to t,he Mental* H e a lth fund. T h e Job of m o u n t ing a play a week Is extremely diffi cult but It becomes Impossible w ith out standbys like Florl W aren and Tom Me Dermott. New to us was Barbara Glenn, one of the most “oom p h lsh\ girls these tired old eyes have seen in years, would like to see more of. T h e onll unfor tunate b it of casting we could find held down - by a Paul Yavor. Mr. Yavor kills his -lines by n o t apply ing^ himself, to the proper uses and lhtonances of colloquial English. He speaks his lines as if he first thought in H u n g a rian and then spoke in English. And the result Is, to be .frank, from Hungary. We Were a bit afraid, never hav ing seen Magda on stage, th a t her perform ance would be sim ilar to the wooden ones we’ve seen sister Eva give on TV. In the few tim es we’ve caught her. we marveled how Eva could attem p t to express any emotion called for in the script by using* one stock expression, no more. But Magda showed surprising talent, showed a thinking woman behind the perform e r, proved herself to be the talented member of the Gabor sisters, gave a finished, delightful theatrical perform ance. M ennsha SkuhuK returned in the roll he played on Broadway for a record-breaking run, \T h e F if th Sea son” - this -week. -He-will- b e there until August 7. W alter Abel, B rian Donlevy and E thel W aters are scheduled to play the Capri in the near future. Dr. Adams on Leave To Study Shakespeare ■ D r.
