All of htr pictures are copies, but her pictures show thai she is lam- ing rerhnlque. Currier and Ives prints, postcards, ?nd other pictur°s have served as her models. Under the Instruction of Mrs Irene Alb- rams, in the Roosevelt Education Course, Mrs. Cantrell has ohown a definite aptitude. Never having \painted before, Mrs. Cantrell com- pleted all the paintings in the show during the past seven months. When her son was grafted, Mrs. Cantrell felt she must busy herself in some way. The relaxation which painting brought her is vital proof of the premises set (forth in Winston Churchill's book \Painting as a Pastime.\ The artist hopes now to be able to go on and create some original works. PER SHOTS By the Old Timer Honuu' 'OiH'Iey said, \That the best product of labor is • lujHiminik'd workman with an enthusiasm for his work.\ the Some folks seem to think that —— ' when one accepts an appointment > this sketch wtih me words of the Ted Lawrence Opens Lombardo Broadcast Ted Lawrence of Jackson Heights, band leader and disc Jockey, open- ed a radio and sports show from Guy Lombardo*s famous Easbpoint House last week. Lawrence, former lightweight box- as an employee of a municipality, he simply has in mind the remune- ration he will receive, and does not enthuse over the prospect of having to render service In order to obtain compensation. This theory is all wrong. Granted in municipal •-em- ployment as well as in the business field, you will find a few drones •who lack the sense of loyalty or know the meaning thereof. Any man is worthy of his hire if he will put forth his best efifort' to produce results and is attentive to his assigned duties. Too often the , public does not knew the calibre nor the back- ground of men who accept munici- pal employment. With this thought in mind, I shall endeavor to sketch the background of just one em- ployee for bheir edification. The man I have In mind was just re-. cently appointed Chief Accountant i^ the Nassau County Department of Public Welfare. I feel that his appointment reflects much credit bo the officials who direct the ac- tivities of the department. I -am informed that George F. Scheid, the Chief Accounts, was formerly employed by the -Interna- tional Banking Corporation of New author, who wrote, \What we are to be really, we_are now potentially. As the future oak lies folded in- the acorn, so in the present lies our future. Our success will be, can -be, but a natural tree, developed from the seeds of our own sowing; the richness of its fruitage will de- pend upon the nourishment ab- sorbed from our past and present.\ TIMETABLE FREEPORT THEATRE Today thru Monday THE WILD NORTH 2:50 6:30 10:04 Sat.—1:00 4:21 7:42 11:06 GIRL IN WHITE 1:22 4:53 8:27 » Sat,—2:44 « 6:05 9i29 Tues. thru Thure.
