ROOSEVELT RACEWAY Westbury, Long Island •, Holy Namers, Sons at Communion Breakfast Rev. Joseph F,.Leonard, .. Of .Garden City- Gives Principal Address Move than 200 -members of the Holy Name Society and their sons attended a communion mass in Our Holy Redeemer R, C. Church Sun- •day morning and most of them ad- journed to the Elks clubhouse for breakfast. Joseph Mailer, the presi- dent, officiated as toastmaster. The Rev. John J, Madden celebrated the mass. . , • The Rev. Joseph F. Leonard, 'of Garden City, gave the principal ad- dross. He explained the' action of the 1S4 Catholic bishops who came out in I'avor of national prepared- ness, but complained of the inabili- ty of the government to maintain proper conditions around Army camps to which the youth of the country would be sent if Universal Military Training was adopted. Father Leonard said \we're living at a time of one of the most contra- dictory spectacles In the history of the\world.\\ He added some lead- ing Catholics, Protestants^and Jews were promoting Communism, and told of one rabbi who lost liis posi- tion because he came out against these conditions. He concluded with an appeal for the men to join the Holy Name Society. Father Madden pointed out the breakfast was being held on the Feast of Pentecost, the birthday of the church. He traced the present condition of the world to a decline in faith in Almighty. Gotl, blamed World War I on this lack of faith and said that after that war god- less men continued to be raised cit- | ing Hitler and v Mussolini. To sustain The living, vital prin- ciples of Christianity, he called on the men to join the Holy Name So- ciety and \be loyal to this great society-which is the greatest in the church.\ Bob Stirrat, of the Review, was another speaker. Maria lacovina and William K e-11 i k e 11 y sang \Dream lo Me of Love\ as a duet. President M a h e r introduced Judge Hilbert R.
