Y. 1-2972 THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 1946 THE LEADER THREE Safety Engineers to Make Traffic Survey at Stadium At the request of the Village Board, safety engineers of the insurance companies holding village policies are to conduct a survey of automobile traffic over streets in the vicinity of the Municipal Stadium with a view t solving the problem created by the throngs drawn to Preeport by the .midget automobile rac^ c . Trustee Horace F. Carpenter re- .vealed this at the weekly dinner of the Rotary Club of Freeport ^ct Thursday night in the clubhouse. -Mr. Carpenter respond- ed to a talk given by Christopher A. Anderson on safety in the high- ways. He announced the Villa^ Board was doing everything .within its power to make the streets safe for pedestrians and drivers. He cited the fact moves had been taken to acquire two parking fields with a^view to reducing the num- ber of cars parked in the business streets. He pointed out\ that last winter several streets on which there were hills had been set aside as play- streets so the youngsters could coast in safety when there was snow on the ground and that parks and playgrounds were being de- veloped to keep boys and girls off the streets. Finally he said that when the examinations , have been completed and an eligible list is established seven additional patrolmen will be appointed so it will be possible to keep a closer watch on speeders and motorists who take the liberty of going through red lights in the village.
