Mid-Island Council has become part of Nassau Council of Girl \Scouts thus all girl scouts living in Nassau County now belong to one council. Locally, for many years, the Farmingdale/N. Massapequa area has been divided into two scouting \neigh- borhoods\ Farmingdale # 7 and Parkwood # 9. This year, steps are being taken to merge these two into one \community\ (name to be decided later). Soon, all girls who attend any of the Farmingdale schools or live within its geographic area, will be part of the same scouting community. This portends more exciting and varied activities for girls than ever before. Watch for details of the new Girl Scout Baton Twirling team, which will begin Oct. 28, and the new Girl Scout Bowling League which begins Nov. 4. (For more in- formation, please call LI 1-0805.) During the past summer, Senior Scouts of Farmingdale, Martha Daunt, Lisa Vecchione, Sue Maurer, and Winnie Phelan, who have taken training to become International Hostesses, thereby promoting world friendship, welcomed guests from Iran, Mexico, Sweden and Ghana to their homes. The Dalers picked up their scouting guests at the Airport, and gave them a tour of Rockefeller Center, Chinatown, the U.N., Empire State Building, World Trade Center, Staten Island Ferry and Lincoln Center. They- • visited Long Island beaches, Teddy Roosevelt's home, and the Huntington Mall. Some went roller skating, others played miniature golf. The days were filled with activities, luncheons, dinners and parties (one at Sue Maurer's Home) with other overseas visitors staying in Long Island homes, International aides, trainers, parents and many people involved in the International program including Blanche Oakes, Marge Daunt, Julie Kajko, Joan Vecchione, Mavis Salerno and Chairman Edith Katz and her husband. The Daunts threw an outdoor barbecue party, which was rained upon, but none of the fifty- five guests seemed to notice. The party moved indoors, and amid the beautiful and exotic native costumes (bright red and gold from Iran), the girls sang and danced. Helen Waranis, trainer for Council and past Senior Advisor in Farmingdale, made quite a hit with the visitors with her hilarious antics. The guests spent some time learning to count money, make phone calls, reach a doctor, ride a bus and train; many basics they will use as they travel on to various seminars and meetings across the United States. Open House The public is cordially invited to attend open house for 7th and 8th graders at Queen of the Rosary Academy, 565 Albany Avenue, Amityvifie, on Monday, October 17, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. For more information call 842- 7171. Woodward PkyPTA On Wednesday, October 19, at 8 p.m., at Woodward Parkway School the PTA will sponsor an Open House. Parents will have an opportunity to meet the teachers who will be working with their children this year.
