U4RDWARE _^ ' ' 310 MAIN STREET FARMINGDALE 249-0200 Tri-State [Continued from page 1] Purcell noted that \Tri-State has now taken up the exact position HUD has established against the people of Hempstead and Oyster Bay. Tri-State, if this document is given official recognition by HUD, would have the power to recommend disapproval of local government applications for federal and state grants on the grounds that the local government has not shown that it is working to meet the totally unrealistic housing goals that some group of appointed officials, with no suburban representation, has established.\ In addition to seeking the power to take away all State and Federal grants as a method of forcing Nassau local govern- ments to start constructing almost 1,900 units per year of low- income projects, Colby noted that \Tri-State is recommending that once again a State agency, such as the Urban Development Corporation, be given the authority to override local zoning in an effort to bring about the destruction program Tri-State is recommending. That flies in the face of the action taken by the elected officials on this State who stripped that power from the UDC.\ Colby noted that since the Tri- State is established by the legislatures of three states, \I believe one area that the Supervisors should discuss at the meeting would be the asking of our State Legislature to consider the dismantling of Tri-State since it is showing itself to be an agency responsible to no one and has arrogantly recommended a policy that is the exact opposite of the action of the elected representatives of the people of this State.\ Sr. Housing [Continued from page 1] Town to all but delegate its zoning powers and respon- sibilities to the federal agency. \Instead of responding to the needs of the community for more housing for our seniors, HUD has expressed its intent to impose more low-income housing on the Town to meet the needs of the Metropolitan area as the price for funding senior citizen housing,\ Colby stated.
