To CSEA PICKET LINE greeted members of the Farmingdale Board of Education in front of the high school prior to the Monday night board meeting. CSEA represents the clerical and custodial employees of the school* district. Form Hardscrabble Fair Plans There will be Fun and Games in Farmingdale ... The 4th An- nual Hardscrabble Fair will be held on Saturday, May 21, on Main Street in the Village of Farmingdale. The Fair will open at 10 a.m. and Main Street will be closed to traffic from Richard to Front Streets. The kick-off parade will start at Northside School at 11 a.m. and proceed up Main Street led by Miss & Master Hardscrabble and the Grand Marshal, Man of the Year, George C. Cook. The formal opening will take place at the Town of Oyster Bay Snowmobile in front of the Main Police Report Two Burglaries Eighth precinct police reported two burglaries in the Far- mingdale area this past week, both to private residences. The first on April 29 was during daylight hours in an apartment at 700 Fulton Street. The burglar entered through the front door of the apartment and took $200 cash and a camera with assorted Street School, immediately following the parade. Various booths will occupy the Village Green and adjacent parking lots, along with rides and games for the children. The merchants along Main Street will conduct sidewalk sales, local artists will display their talents, and entertainment will be sip- plied at two locations by the CAPA Chorale, the Hispanic Society, St. Luke's Senior Choir, Garry and the Runnaways, Boy Scout Troop 511 Indian Dancers, and several Folk Singing groups. A complete program of the Fair Activities will be available in a special supplement in the Farmingdale Post May 19. Rain day for the Fair will be Saturday, May 28. St. Francis Hospital Coming To Farmingdale The second occurred the following day, Attril 30, at 955 Fulton St., also during daytime hours. The burglar entered the residence through a rear door and took a 19\ Panasonic Color Television set. St. Francis Hospital of Roslyn will come to the Farmingdale residents May 12 as part of its celebration of National Hospital Week. The well known Heart Center has taken \A Total Kind of Care\ as its theme, demonstrating the hospital's interest in caring for the whole person - physically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. St. Francis will provide medical information and screening from two Health Trailers parked at St. Kilian's Church on Conklin Street bet- ween 10 and 2 p.m. Thursday. Among the tests provided will be blood pressure screening, oral cancer examinations and breast cancer exams. Medical in- formation provided will Include demonstrations on cardio- pulmonary resuscitation, a diet N.Y. State Joins Other Districts To Recoup Tax Losses The Farmingdale Board of Education, meeting for their regular May meeting Monday night, voted to join a group of nine school districts in a lawsuit against the State of New York to be reimbursed for taxable property taken over by the state or state authorities. for the heart and information on the emergency treatment of heart attacks. Sister Joan Kister, F.M.M., executive director of the hospital noted that the hospital employees were happy to have this opportunity to demonstrate their appreciation to the residents of Farmingdale and especially the parishioners of St. Kilian's for their wonderful support of hospital programs over the years. Bike-A-Thon The Nassau County Police Boys Club will hold its second Bike-A- Thon on Sunday, May 15, on the campus of S.U.N.Y. at Old Westbury. Anyone wishing more in- formation, may call the PBC Headquarters at 222-0860. CP Tag Days Start Sunday A large group of local teenagers will join hands with the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County to raise junds for the agency's Center for Living in Roosevelt. Money raised from the annual Mother's Pay weekend fund drive - called \Cerebral Palsy Tag Days\ - will enable the facility to carry on its comprehensive program of services to the region's cerebral palsied youngsters and adults. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hackett of Farmingdale have been named adult supervisors for Far- mingdale. They have enlisted Jamie Keats to serve as area Teen-Chairman. His respon- sibility is to enlist the aid of fellow high school students to participate in the fund raising endeavor. Cerebral Palsy Tag Days is a student run function coordinated on a Countywide basis. During the drive participants make canister solicitations at bus depots, train stations, and local shopping areas. According to Tag Day Chair- man S. Alan Hirschorn of Roslyn, \This County-wide youth event is reflective of today's young people's concern for their han- dicapped peers.\ In conjunction with the fund raising event, the Cerebral Palsy Association also carries on a major public education campaign in schools throughout the County. Library Budget Hearing Tuesday The Farmingdale Public Library Board of Trustees will hold its regular monthly board meeting on May 10, 1977 at 8:30 P.M. at the South Farmingdale Branch Library- At that time, the Trustees have scheduled a public budget hearing on the 1977-78 budget. The library tax appropriation will be voted on by the electorate on June 15. The East Islip School District is spearheading the group suit against the state. Farmingdale will contribute $3,500 to the legal suit fund to join the joint action. If the suit is successful, the school district would be able to recoup losses in tax due to the MTA takeover of Republic Field. The board also accepted, with regret, the letter of retirement of Acting-Superintendent of Schoo Charles Manso. Manso, wh served as assistant superin- tendent to Dr. William A. Kin- zler, became the acting superintendent after Dr. Kinzler moved to California last sum- mer. Manso's retirement will be effective July 1. Charles L. Manso Members of the Farmingdale Civil Service Employees Association again picketed in front of Farmingdale High School prior to the board meeting as they did last month. They have been working and negotiating without a contract for the past eight months. The main point of contention involves six holiday days that the board claims are not in the working contract, but were granted by the superintendent of schools. The number of holidays in the present contract is also not clear, but it is approximately 14 days. The number of actual holidays per year is a matter of contention, depending on the school calendar. It ranges from a claimed 14 1/2 to 23 days. The board wants* CSEA members to give up six of these \traditional\ I Continued on page 13]
