A September 3 wedding is planned. Announce Engagement Mr. and Mrs. William Kravitz of Flushing have announced the engagement of their daughter, Phyllis June to Jeffrey Roger Hartford of Commack. Miss Kravitz, a former resident of Massapequa, is an alumna of Alfred University and Will receive a Master's Degree from New York University in June. Mr; Hartford is the grandson of Mrs. Edward Hartford of Far- mingdale. His father is Chairman of the Art Department of Far- mingdale Senior High School and an Adjunct Professor of Art at Nassau Community College. Jeff will graduate from Alfred University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in May. A. summer 1978 wedding is planned. Ruggiero, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ruggiero of Colonial Drive has been named Soldier of the Quarter for the U.S. Army, Japan, in Japan. He was selected for his soldierly appearance knowledge and performance of duties and military courtesy. * * • Mr. and Mrs. William Weissbach of Lindenhurst celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a surprise party given by their children at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bellmore. Over 100 guests, in- cluding 18 of 21 grandchildren, attended. They are the parents of William Weissbach Jr. of 126 Woodward Parkway, Far- mingdale. „ PAL Hoop Tide Farmingdale has captured the Nassau County title in the PAL- McDonald's Metropolitan Basketball League and is waiting the finish of play in the Suffolk Division before entering a playoff to determine Long Island's representative in the areawide championships due to be held in early May at the Police Academy Gymnasium in Manhattan. In all, some 170 teams of boys aged 14-16 have participated in the League which began play in January. The program is being implemented by the PAL and sister police organizations in- cluding the Nassau Police Boys Club under the sponsorship of McDonald's restaurants serving the region. Gary Hammond was sworn in as Farmingdale Village Historian by Village Clerk - Treasurer Norman Krasnow. Hammond is a graduate of Adelphi University, and holds a degree in Anthropology and Earth Science. He is a member of the Far- mingdale - Bethpage Historical Society, the American Association for State and Local History, the Early American Society, the Early Trades and Crafts Society, Friends of Nassau County Museum, Suffolk County Archeological Society, and several other historical societies. A collector of Early American memorabilia, Hammond has lectured and displayed his works and collections at various Long Island sites, including the Far- mingdale schools, the Far- mingdale Public Library, the Farmingdale - Bethpage Historical Society, and the American Association of University Women. His collec- tions have been noted in Newsday. Hammond is currently em- ployed by the Nassau County Museum, Old Bethpage Village Restoration and by the Far- mingdale Public Library. 06#c«vUe4, Elinor E. La Fon Elinor E. La Fon, wife of the late William I. La Fon, architect, passed away April 14 at Brun- swick Hospital. She resided in Southampton, L.I. from 1923 until moving to Farmingdale in 1971. She leaves her daughter Mrs. Ronald C. Shircore, sons William and Robert, both of California, and 7 grand-children.
