m :. Hawks' Hot Line The Board of Directors of the Farmingdale Midget Football Association conducts the business of our organization on a year round basis. There are many many executive meetings in addition to the regular monthly membership meetings. It is the responsibility of the Recording Secretary to take down and record the minutes of these meetings which become an official document of the association. Elected to that office for 1977-1978, is Mike Lore. He joined the '•hawks\ in 1973 and immediately volunteered his services. Mike was assigned as an assistant coach in the Farm. The following year he was moved up to the traveling teams as an assistant coach on the J.V.'s. After serving in that capacity for two years he was given an assign- ment as the Head Coach Of the J.V.'s in 1976. His son Mike also joined the \hawks\ in 1973 and played on the PEE WEE * 4 B\ traveling team. Mike Jr. tasted success early in his football career, as that team won their Division Championship that year. He then played on the J.V.'s Midgets, and Seniors and is eligible to play on the Seniors again this year. There are also two women in Mike's life, his lovely daughter Ann Marie and his equally lovely wife Edie. Good luck Mike, we know you have a tough job on your hands, one that you will be literally working your fingers to the bone on. NOTICE: Bob Celentano, Chairman of the Membership Committee, announces that approximately 29% of the questionnaires have been returned as of March 21. He is hopeful that the remaining 71% will be returned very shortly so that he can compile the results and present them to the \Board\ prior to the April monthly membership meeting. Based on some of the early returns Bob feels that the results will be of great value in assisting the \Board\ in their search for ways to im- prove the organization. Perhaps you started to fill out yours, got in- terrupted and just forgot about doing it. Take the time right now, while you are thinking about it, it will only take a few minutes. Hawks Harem If it weren't for my tiny crocus bravely holding their colorful heads high, I would never have believed that Sunday was the first day or spring. Hope the picture gets brighter and we'll soon be enjoying the panorama of this beautiful season. I hope you've all started to work on something for the Boutique we are planning for October, I know October seems far away, but you know how busy things get towards the summer, so now is a good time to start. Carol Mastromauro has already received some beautiful items and she'll be glad to take whatever you make as soon as it's ready. Janet Getter will be holding a Garage Sale at her home, 4 Ruth Lane between Copeland Place and Matthew Street, from Friday, 3/25/77 through Sunday, 3/27/77,10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Janet tells me she has a nice selection of articles, some brand new, so why not stop by over the weekend and maybe pick up some good buys. If you haven't gotten your tickets for the Barn Dance April 2, call 694-4934. Wolverine's Lair Some of our travel soccer games were called off because of snowy fields this past weekend. These games were away and were scheduled at north shore communities. The teams that were scheduled to play at home did play and the results were split. On Saturday our 14 and under team defeated Smithtown by a 3-0 score. La van had 1 tally while Soluri had 2 scores for the Wolverines. Sunday brought the opposite result as we lost to Cold Spring Harbor by a 4-0 shutout. This team will have its ups and downs as they learn to play together but when this happens we can be assured of a great team. The 16 and under team was shutout by Deer Park 2-0 this past Sat. and on Sunday they came back to defeat Hauppauge 1-1. The Wolverines goals were scored by P. Grell assisted by Mike Garcia and Roy Bauer had an unassisted goal. This was a great comeback game as the boys wouldn' t quit and kept on displaying their teamwork. Roller Hockey opened up this past weekend with both the junior and senior divisions starting the season, The scores were not available at the time this article was written but from all who were in attendance there were assurances that the games were well played and exciting. Hopefully we will have a full list of scores for next week's edition. This Saturday our farm league in soccer will have their first games while the official opening day ceremonies will be held the next day at Allen Park. Several town and county officials have been invited and have responded affirmatively to attend this opening and we have even more importantly invited all the parents and friends of the boys and girls who are participating in the program. AH boys and girls are expected to attend and we hope that the parents will make every effort to attend. We have received much help from the Town of Oyster Bay in the running of our program and we want to show them that the people are behind us 100%. This is the first official opening day ceremonies held by the Wolverines and we hope to make it a great one. Ceremonies will start at 1 p.m. and there will be soccer games im- mediately following. There will also be roller hockey games played and this will be a fine opportunity to see the Wolverines in action. We, the Board of Directors and the boys and girls, cordially invite the people of Farmingdale and surrounding area to attend our opening day at Allen Park, Sunday, March 27, at 1 p.m. Bob Darienzo n 3 i crei o C w a w H o =r CO -J THEY'RE HI IN FARMINGDALE PHYSICAL FITNESS: [Left to right] Front Row - Claudine An- drews, East Memorial; James Giammarinaro, East Memorial; Thomas Schmitt, Albany Avenue; Yvette West, East Memorial. Only one starter returns from last year's 12-5 squad in what appears to be a rebuilding year for the Dalers. \We had a tough time last year because of the teacher strike, and we still finished third,\ stated Daler coach Bob Hartranft. \With the pressure we had, that was an accomplishment. This year we have a lot of good seniors returning and I mink we're going to surprise some people.\ Among the returning seniors are goalie Frank' Ambrosio, defenseman Mike O'rourke, attack Tom Clinton and mid- fielders Dean Perri, Kevin Moloney, and Rich Rogers, Also returning are juniors Rich Giusto (midfield), Ray Giusto (mid- field), and Eric Vogelsberg (goalie). But despite the talent of this year's team, winning the division title will be difficult. \The league is very well balanced this year,\ explained Advertisement to the March 22,1977 Farmingdale Athletic i- An open letter Association, regarding the Wolverine soccer league: Can you please tell me how an organization that professes to foster good sportsmanship and citizenship can deny a boy, after he has registered and paid his fees, the right to play in any/soccer game? Your league accepted my sons registration and his $15, and then tried to force him to sell $10 worth of chances (which we, as his parents, do not want him to do). The sale of these chances was made mandatory without any notification prior to registration. Can this association be only interested in becoming bigger and better: It seems that your attitude towards the children is money oriented, you've got to get $10 from them or you can't be bothered. The organization has forced me into a lawsuit to defend the rights of my children. Although I know that they will not be able to play this season, I hope to win a new ruling that will lessen this particular power of the Farmingdale Athletic Association. James W. Powers 183 Grant Ave. Farmingdale, N.Y. Hartranft. \The really good teams lost many players to graduation, while the weaker teams like Hicksville and MacArthur have most of their players returning. The league is pretty even, but I think our toughest competition will come from Bethpage and Syosset.\ Along with playing in a tough, competitive division, the Dalers have little experience. \With Dean Perri our only returning starter, inexperience could be a problem,\ Hartranft noted. The Dalers have, however, gained some experience and familiarity through summer league play. Another factor which could prove troublesome is this year's scheduling. The Dalers, after a few early season games, must play seven of eight games on the road. An advantage to this is being able to finish the season with mostly home contests. Despite the lack of experience and their tough competition, the Dalers have a strong team. \We do have good players who didn't start last year. Right now it looks like our strengths will be at midfield and in the goal,\ Har- tranft said. Hartranft is confident of his team's chances. \We feel we've got a good shot at the division title. Our aim is to take the division and be rated in the top three or four in the county. From there we go to the playoffs, and anything can happen.\ The Dalers themselves are looking towards the season with great optimism and enthusiasm. \We have a pretty solid team this year,\ Rogers said. \We're strong at midfield and we're looking good on defense.\ The Dalers, impressive thus far in scrimmages, open their season today in a non-league contest. The Dalers are home against Plainview-Kennedy at 4:00.
