in The Swim 'Hawks' Hot Line Hie traveling teams have all made their picks and they are all hopeful for a successful season. The farm league tryouts are in full swing and those teams will be picked by the time you read this. A new wrinkle has been added to the senior farm. Due to the small number of registrants for these age groups, only two teams will be fielded. However, the new wrinkle will add competition from an old rival, Massapequa. Our friends from the south have agreed to a schedule that will pit our Senior Farm League teams against theirs. It all adds up to good old fashioned competition between Farmingdale and Massapequa. The junior farm league will be comprised of four teams and they will be rostered with nine, ten and eleven year Olds. Competition between members of these teams have traditionally been high and there is no reason to suspect that this year will be any different. The Country Auction raised approximately $500 for the \Hawks\ and hats off to all those people who put in so much time and effort to make this event the success that it was. Coming events, the Light Bulb sale Saturday, September 11. The singular most productive one day fund raising effort that requires the cooperation of all to make it the success that it has been through the years. The head coaches will be asking for volunteer drivers, please help us out by giving us a few hours of your time. Senior trip to Nor- wood Massachusetts Labor Day Weekend. Our senior team kicks off its 1976 football season against a formidable foe from New England. It renews a home and home series that was abandoned for the sunny South in recent years a venture that became increasingly more dif- ficult to fund. All are welcome, make it a great Labor Day Weekend for information contact Marie Soluri at 293-7378. Opening day parade on September 12 traditionally one of the most spectacular events of the year. It features all teams, traveling and farm in full uniforms, our beautiful cheerleaders, coaches men's and ladies' organization members. Each team is invited to enter a car representing their team in a theme of their choice. The winning car, van, truck or whatever will receive two tickets to the cocktail party that will be held on the evening of September 12 at the Knights of Columbus Hall just off route 109 in East Farmingdale. Tickets are now on sale for the cocktail party, contact Joe Scutero or the head coach of any team. Opening Day Parade will be followed by a football game which will feature the 1976 Pee Wee's (last year's Peanut Champions) and an opponent to be named, it should be a great day. Many people do not realized that our organization is open to all who would like to get involved. We always welcome new faces. There are approximately 500 boys and girls participating in our program. We have a men's organization and a Ladies Auxiliary with approximately 100 active members between the two groups. The meetings are held once a month. A majority of these people have been with us for many years, even after their sons and daughters have graduated, we must be doing something right so join us and see for yourself, you'll never know unless you give it a try. Hawks Harem It's a girl! It's a girl! Congratulations to Edie & Charlie Kalkhof and all the family. They are keeping the Hawks in cheerleaders. The Country Auction, last Saturday, was very successful. There were many pleased customers who came away with a number of \steals.\ Janet Getter would like to express a most sincere thank you to all those men and women who helped her with this big un- dertaking. She (and her husband) put many hard and laborious hours into its' success. The weatherman contributed also by keeping the wet stuff away. In retrospect, its' success was also due to a lot of strangers who came and made purchases. Actual Hawk parents were very few in number. It seems to be a trend not to attend Hawk functions. Just keep in mind the reason for these events - your children! Janet has also supplied us with a little good news about one of our most avid and faithful ex-L.A.F.H. members. She spent a week at none other than Marcia Dorman's house in Garling, Texas Marcia is doing very well and loving her new life which includes a big beautiful house and swimming pool. However it puzzles Janet how Marcia is only \20 minutes\ away from here, there and everywhere. Marcia sends her regards to everyone and is still rooting for us up North. ^Attention to all girls that tried out for the Traveling teams but did not make a team. There will be additional tryouts for the Farm League Teams. It wUl be held at Weldon E. Howitt Field, Monday, Aug. 23, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Please wear your numbered shirts. Parents must be there at 7:30 p.m. sharp to pick up their daughters. BEATING THE HEAT AT CANTIAGUE PARK • From the cool waters of the Cantiague Park pool to the igloo-like dome of Can- tiague's ice rink is the route Debbie O'Conner of Locust Valley demonstrates. The Nassau County Department of Recreation and Parks' facility is open to all county residents with a Leisure Pass and their guests. * • Wolverine's Lair The Town of Oyster Bay - Wolverine Basketball League is now but just a memory, a •pleasant memory, This unique idea was supported fully by the Oyster Bay Dep't of Parks under the direction of Mr. Bill Brown. Without his help one cannot say what might have happened to the league and to the fine boys that played in this league. Another person mat deserves a word of thanks is Sal Gioeli, manager of Allen Park, he has worked many hours on his own time to accommodate this league as well as the other activities at Allen Park. Harold Sieber, owner of Suburban Sports, is also in line for praise for his donation of some basketballs to the league. A person who has also helped in the spreading of the word of this league is Mike Kelly who provided the statistics for publication. Last but certainly not least in the special thanks category are the players and the coaches who have made the league such a success that it turned out to be in such a short time. We certainly look forward to seeing these boys in action for the respective schools during the fall season In the action on Thursday night, Bethpage defeated Plainview by a score of 45-36. Dan Denve led the scoring parade with 21 pts. followed by Norm Feckl with 11 pts. Berner defeated Plainedge as they were led by Steve Piligra and Mike Ronan each with 12 pts. Final score Berner 53-Plainedge 39. Hicksville romped over Kennedy by the score of 62-48. Tony Colamussi led Hicksville with 23 pts. followed by John Bergin with 18 pts. Ray Ceasare played a great game as a ball handler. Massapequa kept on rolling towards the championship of the league by defeating Farmingdale by 20 points. Ron Erdman was excellent as he helped the Chiefs to hold the Dalers scoreless in the first quarter. Final score Massapequa 69-Farmingdale 49. The last games of the season were held this past Friday night at Allen Park. In the scheduled opening game of the night Beth- page forfeited to Plainedge. Berner then demolished Plain- view 46-24. Berner was led by George Goldens with 14 pts. and Steve Pilagra's 11 pts. The key to the game however was the \little man\ Tim Slevins clutch passing down the stretch. Far- mingdale defeated Kennedy by the score of 66-50. This was a balnced scoring attack by the Dalers. Farmingdale was tied with Hicksville for second place but because Hicksville beat Massapequa and split with Farmingdale, Hicksville took second place. Players to look forward to next year include Bob (B.B.) Graziano, Bob McCann, Ken Ross, Cornbread Sloat, Dick Rogers, George Higney, Jim Higgins, Tom Darcy, Harold Calnas, Tom Tessitore and Big John Jorgy. Massapequa in their final game of the year played one of the finest games of the year against Hicksville. Massapequa defeated Hicksville 66-65. The Chiefs finished the year with a 13- 1 record. Final Standings 1 Massapequa 13-1. 2 Hicksville 9-5 3 Farmingdale 9-5 4 Berner ( 9-5 5 Plainview- Kennedy 6-8 6 Plainedge 6-8 7Bethpage 3-11 8 Plainview 2-12 The Over the Hill Gang Softball League celebrated the conclusion of their season with a gala party that was held last Saturday evening. Many laughs were had by all that were in attendance and a good time was had until the early morning hours. The fantastic food which was prepared by the master chefs John Marrotta and Jim Reilly was out of sight and there was so much that people went up for second and third helpings. Trophy mugs were given out to all members in attendance and after they all seemed to be filled with some kind of brew. We look forward to next year's season and the year end party and hope the Commissioner Jim Reilly can only duplicate the fun and fine time that we had this past year. Thanks again to Jim Reilly, Ton Sharp and all the managers and players in the league. Bob Darienzo Nassau County Class \C Championships were held on Aug. 11 at Marjorie Post Park.
