[Photo by Hickish] Cal. Band Concert 76 Finale The Farmingdale Bicentennial Committee will present the world famous University of California Marching Band on Sunday, July 11. The program, entitled \Spirit of America,\ will be held at Nold Hall, State University of Far- mingdale, Melville Road, beginning at 8 p.m. It will include a demonstration of the precision marching for which the band is known. Musical selections will include Dixieland, vaudeville, Broadway and contemporary tunes plus a Bicentennial piece composed especially for the band by Roger Nixon. Highlighting the evening's events will be an appearance by the University of California's Barbershop Quartet and per- formances by the Cal jazz and rock bands playing music of the 1940's through the 1970's ac- companied by dancers. The show [Continued on page 5] A special achievement award in recognition of a safety record of no pedestrian deaths for one year has been awarded by the American Automobile Association to the Village of Farmingdale. The award was presented by James P. Melton, New York State Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, and Charles J. Murphy, president of the Automobile Club of New York, at a luncheon ceremony held in New York City on Thursday, June \1; at the New York Athletic Club. The community official ac- cepting the award was Mayor John T. Hallahan. The luncheon honored representatives from 66 award- winnkig communities in the State's 14 southernmost counties, the area served by the Auto Club. The Club is the local affiliate of the AAA, which conducts an inventory of community pedestrian safety programs each year. This year, reports from more than 2,400 communities in all parts of the nation were evaluated by a panel of leaders in highway and traffic engineering, motor vehicle administration, enforcement, education and traffic safety. Walk-A-Thon For Seniors There'll be plenty of walking and wheeling going on as nursing homes and health related facilities join in the 2nd Annual March of Dimes Walk or Wheel-a- thon on Sunday, June 27. The residents of Daleview Nursing Home and Manor H. R.F. invite everyone to join them, the Red Cross Youth, the Far- mingdale Fire Dept., and the Police officers of the Eighth Precinct, on Sunday June 27 between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. The starting point will be 530 Fulton Street and commencing along Fulton to Main Street and back...
