It couldn't have been done at all without the help and time spent by Miss Butler, the yearbook advisor. We all appreciate her very much for all the things she has done for us throughout the year. The Yearbook Committee presented Miss Butler with a plaque and a corsage at the awards assembly held last Tuesday, June 8, and gave her a party afterwards just to show how much they thank and ap- preciate what she has done for them. Mill Lane held its Talent Show Wednesday, June 2. It was very successful. The coordinator of the show was Mr. Frattalone. Jimmy Giancola was MC. for the first half of the show. The highlight of the evening was the boys' beauty contest, coordinated by Miss Butler. Dresses and other clothing worn were supplied by Miss Butler, some students, and also the beauties. The Diagnostic and Learning Center of the Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre will conduct again its annual summer program in reading and mathematics. The program, which will begin on July 6, will be offered at 49 locations throughout Long Island, including St. Kilian, Farmingdale. The DDLC, a service of the Education Department of the Rockville Centre Catholic Diocese, launched its year-round program three years ago with only 12 centers. According to Dr. George Giuliani, coordinator of the program, the additional centers reflect the awareness of parents and teachers that the summer months represent an ideal time to help those Children who. are having academic dif- ficulties. Without such help, noted Dr. Giuliani, children who are behind at the end of the school year usually begin the new term at the same disadvantage. The summer program is open to children from grades one through eight. Students need not attend a Catholic school to be enrolled. The fee for the program - $120 - is the same as last summer. Details and registration in- formation can be obtained by contacting the Center at 669-2345. So far the Diocesan Diagnostic and Learning Center has assisted some 4,000 children. Services rendered have included psychoeducational testing, learning disabilities training, psychotherapy, and remedial instruction in reading and mathematics. According to Dr. Giuliani, the Center has enabled large num- bers of children to become more successful students. When parents have reason for concern for their child's progress, they should take steps immediately to determine what is causing the problem. It may be that the child requires only additional in- struction in reading or mathematics. When the problem appears more severe, the child should be scheduled for complete psychoeducational testing. Based upon test results, the kind of help can be provided which will enable the child to become a more successful student. ENGAGED: Mr. and Mrs. Raymond A.
