DeMarco were hosts at their home on Bethpage Rood to about 85 guests at a poolside Cocktail party to raise funds to purchase a Pulmonary Respirator for the Pulmonary Care Institute at the Suffolk Developmental Center in Melville. Mrs. DeMarco has been most successful in being able to have different organizations in the community donate respirators to the Center, in the past few years. Many Far- mingdale residents are mere, and so much equipment is needed, as the State only provides so much, so if you can, please send a donation to Mrs. Mildred De Marco, Bethpage Road, Farmingdale. Your effort will help make the lives of these unfortunates - more comfortable. Mrs. De Marco wishes to thank the many people who donated to this worthy cause. Nancy Yvonne Holliday of Garden Street completed her formal degree requirements at SUNY/CoUege at Old Westbury. Miss Holliday, who majored in Elementary and Early childhood Education will receive the Bachelor of Science degree at the College's ftttffiiyi commencement program in June. Einar Andersen was the guest of honor t»t a birthday party given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Andersen of Washington Street. Friends and family helped celebrate this happy occasion. • • • Theodore Barbuto, former resident of Farmingdale for 33 years and who now Ives in Fort Pierce, Florida with his wife, is celebrating his 25 years with Grumman. He is now working in the Grumman Plant in Stuart, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Barbuto's son, Peter, is now working and living in Portage, Michigan, with his wife Linda. • * * Staff Sergeant Frank W. Kubernach, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kubernach of Dean Street has been assigned to Mildenhall RAF Station, England for duty with a unit of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe. The sergeant is a 1988 graduate of Farmingdale High School. His wife is the former Elisabeth C. Meserole, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin F. Meserole of Zoranne Drive. • • * Denise G. Pfeiffer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reinhold Pfeiffer, of Hempshire Drive has been promoted to the position of market research representative in the marketing division of Victor F. Weaver, New Holland, Pa. • • • Stephen Sterbenz, son of Mr. and Mm. E. J. Sterbenc, Miller Road, who is presently a fresh- man at the University of Virginia, has recently been selected to join the Echolas Scholars Program which is an Association for Special Scholars. • • * Frances Schaeffor, of Yoakum, Avenue, a teacher at Half Hollow High School has been appointed by the American Institute for Foreign Study, to accompany a group of students on a trip to France and Italy. After arriving in Paris and visiting the sights there, they will continue to Rome to explore that city. ENGAGED: Mr. and Mrs. Maurice M. Amend of Far- mingdale have announced the engagement of their daughter Holly Jeanne to David Lee Benze, son of Mr. Frederick Benze and the late Virginia Benze, formerly of Farmingdale. Miss * Amend, a graduate of Farmingdale high School and the State University of New York at Albany is a Business Education teacher at Farmingdale High School. Mr. Benze, a graduate of Farmingdale High School and Fairleigh Dickinson is a con- sulting engineer at Arctec, Inc. in Columbia, Maryland. s A July wedding is planned. No April Fool Don't be an April Fool, know the warning signals of heart attack, recommends the American Heart Association, Nassau Chapter. The April 1st television program of Medix on WOR(Channels) entitled \When Minutes Count\ will focus on heart attack and the life-saving program cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This program is part of the public affairs television series on medicine and health. Dr. Lucille E. Wright, daughter of Mrs. Theodore M.Johnson and the late Mr. Johnson, 833 Fulton Street, Farmingdale, has been awarded the National Distinguished Service Award by the National Office Education Association of America. The National Office Education Association is the national youth group that represents students in high school and post secondary education who are following occupational goals in office oc- cupations. OEA is a member of the national vocational youth organization that represents Future Farmers of America, Future Homemakers of America, Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, Distributive Education Clubs of America and the Future Business Leaders of America. This was the first time this award has ever been granted. Dr. Wright is one of the foun- ders of the national OEA which now has more than 80,000 young members in America. She received her doctorate at Ohio State University in 1972 as the first woman in the nation to be a recipient of a vocational scholarship for doctoral studies, under the national Education Professional Development Act. She received her PhD degree in Vocational Administration from the Ohio State University with the majority of her work in Business Education and a minor in Educational Guidance and Home Economics. Her doctoral research was entitled, \Sociometric Study, Through Histrionism, Of The Relative Impact of Physical At- tractiveness on the Employment Probability of Office Personnel.\ Dr. Wright received a Master of Arts degree in Educational Curriculum from the University of Northern Iowa in 1984. A Bachelor of Business Ad- ministration degree was granted Dr. Wright by Ohio State University in 1947. Dr. Wright's grandparents- settled in Farmingdale in the late 1920's and were long residents of William Street. Her parents moved to Farmingdale in 1038, her father being a pioneer in aviation and affiliated with Major Alexander P. de Seversky, founder of Seversky Aircraft the forerunner of Republic Aviation. Dr. Wright is presently serving as Associate Professor of Education at Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio where she directs the program of graduate studies for Business Education and is the teacher- educator for vocational preparation of business education teachers for Ohio programs. She previously taught at the University of Northern Iowa as a professor in the College of Business and Office Ad- ministration. Art Trip The % Farmingdale Public Library is sponsoring an art trip into New York City on Wed., March 24, to the New York Historical Society for an exhibit of special Bicentennial events. A bus will leave the South Branch Library at 8:45 a.m. and the cost of the trip will be $8.50 per per- son. Registration is still being accepted at the Reference Desk, Most recently Dr. Wright has been on a national speaking circuit where she has addressed professional organizations in eighteen states on the findings of her doctoral work and research that has recently been completed relative to sex discrimination for both men and women. She is currently co-directing a national research project relative to education and management principles. She has just been elected Secretary of the National Association of Teacher Educators of Business and Office Education. This month she will serve as a consultant to the United States Office of Education, Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Last year she was a consultant to the White House Conference on Youth in Vocational Education. Besides being the first woman to receive the national fellowship in vocational education Dr. Wright is the first woman to have been granted the PhD under this federal program, and the first woman to be on a team of national authors who have developed a full-year educational office curriculum for high school and adult education programs. The work, REALITY TRAINING - APEX is published by the 3M Company and is presently in use in over 1200 programs in 38 states. Dr. Wright, married to Glenn Wright and mother of Craig, who attends Kent State as a Junior in the College of Architecture, claims Farmingdale as her hometown. She came here as a young child and attended grade, junior and high school when they were all in the same building on Main Street. She frequently returns to Farmingdale and enjoys seeing her \hometown\ grow, never ceasing to marvel at its accomplishments and its excellent schools. ENGAGED: Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Cahlin Sr. of Detroit Lakes Minnesota wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Darlene Gay, to Mr. Kenneth Todd Saurman, son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Saurman of No. Massapequa. Miss Cahlin attended Bethany College in Lindsborg Kansas. Mr. Saurman graduated from Bethany College and is presently attending /Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Paul Minnesota. The wedding date has been set for April 3, 1978 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
