Student Council and Jr. Historical are busy selling tickets for the upcoming Sock Hop. The band \Good Times\ will be playing a lot of 50's, 60's and 70's music. It starts at 8:00 and ends at 11:00. It will be an evening you will never forget. The cost is $1.50, or $1.00 with a 6.0. card. The tickets are on sale in the Green and White shop so buy a ticket and have the time of your life on March 12. The Nassau county March of Dimes Walk-a-thon is your chance to help fight birth defects. It's a 20 mile walk starting at Eisenhower Park and ending at Eisenhower Park. Superwalk '78 is on Sunday, April 25. To get your sponsor sheet, contact Farmingdale's Superwalk representatives, Mary Mallardi, Melanine Ericson or Amy Arrow, or pick up a register form in the main office. The South Farmingdale Fire Department is offering a course in emergency first aid to babysitters ages 12 and over. It starts March 17, from 7:90 to 9:30 p.m. If you are interested, pick up a form in the main office. Get in the real Superwalk mood this year and make a poster depicting Superwalk. It can be made on most anything using water colors, crayons, etc. So, on April 25th we'd like to see all you people wearing your signs. If you happen to be cruising Mill Lane in the near future, stop in and see Mr. Frattalone's famous Italian window located in the main lobby. The posters, pictures and different foods from Italy are very interesting. SPORTS Wednesday, Feburary 18, the Mill Lane Tigers defeated Mattlin by a score of 76-58. Bicentennial Ball Tickets Now Available Darlene Henn, chairwoman of the Farmingdale Bicentennial Costume Ball, has announced the availability of tickets for the Ball, which is to be held at the Far- mingdale Jewish Center, 428 Fulton Street, on May 8. The tickets, handprinted in old English, and tied in red, white and blue yarn can be framed and kept as a memorable Bicen- tennial Committee. However, a few will be available at the Village Hafy, for those who wish to buy them individually. The price is $7.50 per person, or $15.00 per couple. Also available, are sketches and instructions of Women's and Men's costumes, which can be readily made out of old clothing. Those planning to attend the Ball are urged to visit the Workshops. Mrs. Lee Pecora revealed that the first Costume Workshop meeting will be held at the South Farmingdale Library on Wed- nesday, March 17 and 24, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, and from 8 to 10 p.m. The second Workshop will be held at the main Street Branch of the Library on Wednesday, April 7 and 14, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. There will be a small charge for the Workshop sessions. [Post photo by Bob Starrett] Carnation Ball Nets Junior League 9 1500 The Twenty-second annual Carnation Ball of the Junior League of the Women's Club of Farmingdale was held Saturday, February 28, at the Bethpage Country Club. The League's annual dance and journal netted over $1,500 for local scholarships and other educational endeavors. Sue Fischer, dance chairman and Linda Fischer Journal Chairman and their com- mittees were congratulated for their successful efforts. Barbara Conrod, president, on behalf of the club thanked all individuals and businessmen in the com- munity who contributed in the club's most important fund- raising affair Special guests in attendance were: Mrs. Harold von Hasslin, second district director, N.Y.S.F.W.C., Mrs. Charles Clementi, president of Women's Club, and Mrs. William Kinzler, senior advisor to Junior League. Beauty-Beast Opera Slated At Howitt A new, fully orchestrated version Of \Beauty and the Beast,\ an opera by 28-year-old Jeremiah Murray, will be presented by Orchestra Da Camera's Opera Company March 20, 8:30 p.m., at the Weldon E. Howitt Jr. High School in Farmingdale. Murray's operatic treatment of the classic fairy tale was originally written for piano ac- companiment alone.. It- was performed in the spring of 1974 at Playwrights Horizons. The New York Times described it as a \touching work of talent, gloriously entrenched in the 19th century and really a very sophisticated blend of con- temporary influences.\ Murray has since revised and or- chestrated the work, a one-act opera in nine scenes, which will be presented by a cast of eight singers and dancers ac- companied by the full Orchestra DaCamera, the 18-year-old Long Island musical organization which is directed by Ralph and Flori Lorr. In addition to the performance March 20 for the general public, 17 performances have been scheduled for students in Brentwood, Bay Shore, Nor- thport, Greenport and Haup- pauge Jr. and Sr. high schools. Thomas Booth and Herbert Grossman will conduct the opera, which will be performed by two separate casts alternating ap- pearances. The oast, members of the repertory company of the Orchestra DaCamera's Opera Company who have performed with the NBC-TV Opera, City Opera and Metropolitan Opera Studio, will include: Marjorie Minnis, Judith Allen George, Nancy Valentine, Forest Lorey, Walter Hook, Matt Murray, Robert Becker, Mary Elizabeth Poore and Valerie Saalbach. The Orchestra Da Camera, founded by Ralph and Flori Lorr, is an 18-year-old professional musical organization, in residence at North Babylon Senior High School. It has been rated one of the best small or- chestras in the United States. The Orchestra is assisted by grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, National En- dowment for the Arts, and the Recording Industries' Music Performance Trust Funds. Admission by series tickets of $8.00 single adult, $3.00 students andltonior citizens. Costume Workshop The Farmingdale Public Library will present a \How To Make A Bicentennial Costume\ Workshop, conducted by Mrs. Lee Pecora. In order to ac- commodate all those interested in the program, the Library will hold three separate workshops, each workshop consisting of two 2-hour lessons. There will be a $5 fee for the two lessons. The three Workshops will be scheduled as follows: Workshop Group n - March 17, March 24 - 10-12 noon - South Branch Workshop Group #2 - March 17, March 24 • 8-10 p.m. • South Branch Workshop Group #3 - April 7, April 14 • 10-12 noon - Main Library Registration will take place at the library. Reservations may be made now. Cancer Meeting The Farmingdale Branch of the American Cancer Society will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 8th at 3:30 P.M., 840 Fulton Street, Farmingdale. Volunteers are needed, so please make an effort to attend.
