McNally as director of the de- partment of surgery and Dr. Mil- ton Rosenberg as director of the department of obstetrics. Dr. McNally, a resident of Bayport , succeeds Dr. Jacob Dranitzke of Patchogue , who served as the chief of surgeryfor eight years and who has now been named attending surgeon by the hospital' s board of trustees. Dr. Rosenberg of Patchogue succeeds Dr. Paul V . Brinley of Patchogue who becomes attending ob- stetrician. Dr. Brinley has been associated with the hospital since it opened in 1956. Dr. Milton Rosenberg • Dr. McNally received his de- gree in medicine ln 1948 from Long Island College of Medicine and served a progressive surgical residency at the New York Uni- versity Bellevue Medical Center from 1948 to 1955. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sur- geons , a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a visiting surgeon and instructorof surgery at Bellevue HospitaL Dr. Mc- Nally, a member of the Suffolk Surgical Society, is a consultant in surgery at Mather Memorial and St. Charles hospitals , Port Jefferson , and a membe r of the courtesy staff of Southside Hos- pital , Bay Shore . Dr. Rosenberg is president of the Suffolk County Obstetrical and Gynecological Society. While services increased in every area , the number of pa- tients treated in the emergency room soared to 19 , 306. In 1963 , Southside treated 16 , 750 emer- gencies and In 1962 , 11 , 650, The average daily census In the 248-bed hospital was 238 and the average length of stay was 4. 9 days — one of the shortest in the nation. It reflects the continuous demand for hospital beds. Operations , laboratory tests , and x-rays showed a marked in- crease over 1963 . The number of babies born increased slightly, by 78 , to 3 , 520.
