Handicapped Made Eligible For Recreation Discounts i The Ishp Town Board has approved a 50 per cent discount for the handicapped on all recreation permits. Councilman John P Finnerty announced today. Finnerty, Town Board liaison with the Handicapped Division, said those interested in obtaining this discount should apply at the Division of Handicapped Ser- vices , own Office Building, 401 Main Street , Islip for approval. He added that in order to be eligible for the discount , a person may qualify in any of the following ways. 1. Drive a special car and have no use of lower limbs , or 2. Drive a regular car , but have limited use of lower limbs , or 3. Be unable to drive because of handicap and require another automobile operator , or 4. Be unemployed due to handicap or disability and have an individual income of not more than $6500 per year. Handicapped people who meet any of the above qualifications may apply for the new Recreation Card at the Han- dicapped Division Olfice or call for information at 581-2000 , ext. 331. Those who qualify may have their photograph taken and apply for the identification card at the same location. Handicapped residents will have a special designation on their Recreation Cards which will entitle them to 50 per cent discounts at Tow n swimming pools , the Brentwood Golf Cours e , and at all recreation programs where a fee is charged. Horse Will Get Pay in Court Islip Councilman Norman DeMott , chairman of the Town ' s Public Service Committee , will hold a legislative hearing April 17th at 7:30 p.m. at Islip Town Hall to consider proposed changes to the Town horse or- dinance. Councilman DeMott said the hearing is to collect data before the regular public hearing is scheduled by the Town Board. Persons wishing to present testimony should contact Harold Ferguson , Town Board Assistant , by calling 581-2000 , ext. 311 for a reply form . Oral testimony will be limited to 10 minutes. A copy of the proposed ordinance changes will be availabl e at the registration desk April 17th. Assembl y Bill Protests PSC Ruling Assemblyman Paul Harenberg (D-Bayport ) has introduced a bill in the State Assembly that would prevent the Public Service Commission (PSC) from gran- ting reduced fuel charges to electric space heat consumers. The PSC has approved the granting of reduced fuel charges to consumers who heated their homes electrically. Mr. Harenberg feels this would be an \ undue advantage and an unreasonable preference for electric heat consumers. \ Harenberg said that he realized the impact of fuel charges on electric space heating customers is great. He said , however , that he has genuine fear that the great majority of consumers who do not heat their homes electrically would bear the burde n of even higher fuel oil charge s if electric (Continued on Page 28) Bay Shore Man Named to County Post The Suffolk legislature is ex- pected to ratify the appointment of Bay Shore Attorney Sidney L. Mitchell as the county ' s Com- missioner of Real Property at a meeting April 22. Mitchell , who is an assistant Islip Town Attorney , has been designated by County Executive John V. N. Klein to correct a situation he called \ scandalous \ for the past 50 yea rs . According to Klein , Mitchell will be given responsibility for the acquisition , custody and disposition of county-owned real estate. The prospective commissioner , 52 , lives in Bay Shore with his wife and two children. If his designation is approved , as ex- pected , he will receive a salary of about $30 , 000 a year and will be required to hold the pos t on a full- time basis. Super Walk ' 75 will be held on Sunday, April 27 , by the Suffolk Co un ty Chapter March of Dimes to hel p children born with birth defects. The twenty-mile March will be held in two areas: at Dowling College in Oakdale and at Dix Hills Park in Dix Hills. The Walkathons , involving students from all the junior and senior high schools in Suffolk , are the major fund-raising events of the year for the March of Dimes. Applications may be obtained in junior and senior high schools in the Islip and Huntington areas , or by calling the March of Dimes office at 665-6900. This annual twenty mile walk is enthusiastically supported by both students and adults , and the public is requested to respond to the marchers who will be signing (Continued on Page 28) March of Dimes Super Walk J.Hector McAllister , 67 , Dies A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Thursday , April 10 at St . Patrick' s R.C. Church , Bay Shore , for J. Hector McAllister , 67, who died suddenly on Monday of a heart attack. Mr. McAllister was an assistant Commissioner and Director of Public Relations for the Suffolk County Social Ser- vices Department. He lived on Brentwood Rd., Bay Shore. He is survived by his wife , Margaret , nee Ryan; three daughters , Joyce Scanlon , Sheila McOwen and Noreen Vickers ; 12 grandchildren , and a sister , Elizabeth Dowling. Following the Mass interment will take place in St. Patrick' s Cemetery under the direction of the George C. White Funeral Home. The Mos t Rev. Benedict D. Coscia , Bishop of Jatai , Brazil , will administer the sacrament of confirmation to approximately 130 youngsters in St. John of God Church , Central Islip, on Thur- sday, April 10. The Rev.
