Principal of the Islip High School , recently an- nounced that Laura Neumaier . a member ol the Senior Class , was a Semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Examination. Miss Neumaier scored in the top lentil of one per cent of ap- proximately HO . 000 students who competed tor the Merit Scholarship in the Spring of lilTl. Laura works pari time , is active in dramatics and is on the staff ot the school newspaper and lelerary magazine. She plans to enter a pre-medical program and is considering the University ot Chicago among other in- stitutions. In addition to the finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program, five other Islip students were awarded Letters of Commendation for their scores in tins National competition. They are: Susan Consiglio . who plans to study Medical Technology, is considering Albany University and Buffalo University. . Rickey Leed , who plans on a medical career , islooking into Cornell and Stony Brook Universities. Ross Mandel , who is p lanning on a career in Social Sciences , is considering Brandeis and Har- pur. Carol McGinley, who is con- sidering a career in Journalism or History , is applying to the University of Phili ppines and Boston University. Kevin Shanahan hopes to study Political Science at either Harpur or Purchase.
