Hronich (I) i \Denotes Incumbent i One of the quietest election campaigns in more than 20 years comes to a close on Tuesday and while leaders of the political parties in the Town of Isli p have made no predictions , the evidence is that the electorate will endorse the Republican Party candidates. Because of the name involved, predictions are that the race for supervisor could be close Arid one ol (lie reasons why the campaign has been quiet is because ol the lack ol an in- cumbent in the supervisor race Much ot the steam usually generated in a political campaign was expended m the Republican primaries in which Peter F Cohalan defeated incumbent Cl y de W Pcarsall lor the GOP nomination Cohalan is opposed b y Richard Dennison. Both candidates tor supervisor are political neophytes although their names are not new Cohalan is the son ol Supreme Court Justice John P. Cohalan , a for- mer Islip Town supervisor Dennison is the son ol II. Lee Dennison who is stepping down after three terms as Suffolk County Executive The campaign for a successor to County Executive Dennison has been conducted on a low key- Republican John V N Klein , currently pres'ding officer of the county legislature , has had the tacit blessing of the retiring executive. I William Bianchi , the Democratic candidate opposing Klein has the official party blessing ol Dennison. Frederick R. Merz is the Conservative candidate and Michael R. Graziano is the Liberal hopeful. Neither seems to have extended themselves along the campaign trail. In the District Attorney race , incumbent George R. Aspland is considered a clear choice over Democratic Anthony R. Corso , an assistant deputy attorney of Huntington. In the town race for councilmen seats the Republicans seem to have the edge , although some observers believe that incumbent Democrat Louis J. Palombi may make a spirited race. The Republican choices are John P Finnerty, retired deputy police commissioner , and Norman De Molt , former Director of Town Marine Affairs. Others in the race are Edmund G. Carroll , Democrat , Arthur K. Lee . Conservative , Carolyn A. Weber . Conservative , Nancy A. Man- dredonia , Liberal , Christop her T, Morris, Liberal, and Thomas J (Continued on Page 23) Chamber Seeks Parking Solu tion b y Annette Marshall The Bay Shore Chamber of Commerce held its long-awaited meeting on the parking problem in Bay Shore at Flynn ' s Restaurant recently . Feelings ran high and what started out as just another chamber meeting turned into a rough and tumble affair with Peter Cohalan , the Republican candidate for supervisor of the Town of Islip and Richard Dennison , his Democratic opponent, caught in the crossfire as invited speakers. Mr. Dennison came equipped with maps and other data devised as aids in showing the audience of merchants and people interested in saving the Main St. area , how il elected , he would solve the problem. Mr. Cohalan disagreed , calling the Dennison plan \Pie in the sky \ , which immediately drew an angry response from Mr. Dennison. Mr. Cohalan continued without the aid of maps to outline his solution to the problems , with hrs final statemen t being \If I' m elected I will help solve this parking problem in Bay Shore \ There was a mixture of angry questions directed to both can- didates and the Chamber president Frederick H. Badenius , who constantly found himself in the position of telling the audience that this meeting was called as a forum to air the problems of parking, which as the chamber president he had no direct control over. Such notables as Councilman Polumbi , County Legislator Pat Adams. Lieutenant Wurtz (police dept.) , John Finnerty Republican candidate lor councilman , Lyn Weber , Conservative candidate for councilman and Herman Hammer , former councilman. All offered their opinions and suggestions and were involved in a rather lively question and answer response from the con- cerned audience. Finally, towards the end , Mr. Hammer , offered his services as part of a committee to dig for the answers and provide the direc- tion to solve this problem. This meeting, spokesmen said, was just an example of what to expect from the merchants and townspeople ol Bay Shore who are FED UP.
