William Barto Services Monday Funeral services were con ducted lrom the First Congregational Church ol Ba> Shore Monday tor William W Barto. 77 . oi 97 Second ave . Bay Shore , who died Oct. 14 in Southside Hospital. Bay Shore. The Rev John Cranston of- liciated and burial lollowed in L. I National Cemetery. Pinelawn , under direction ol the Sullivan Funeral Home Mr Barto was a retired Sergeant of the Sulfolk County Police Department and an honor guard of police officers was in attendance at the rites. Mr. Barto had been in police work for more than 30 years , having started out with the Islip Town police department as a foot patrolman , later rising to Lieutenant. For many years he was a popular officer on the Bay Shore \beat \ and knew prac- tically everybody by their first names, lie retired in 1963. Mr. Barto was a veteran of World War 1 . having served with William Barto the 16th Army Ca ' lvarv Regiment. After the war . he became a charter member ol the Ba\ Shore Post. American Legion , and was also active with Bay Shore-Islip Barracks No. 2148 Having been born in Bay Shore , he was active in most of its community vvork He served lor years as a member of the Penataquit Hose Companv ol the Fire Department and was a member of its Exempt Firemen ' s Association. He also belonged to the Policemen ' s Benevolent Association and to the Suffolk County Police Conference. Mr. Barto is survived by his wile Agnes , daughters Thelma Cotellis of Bradenton , Fla., and Elizabeth Cambridge of Walwick, N J., a son. William Chester ol Arlington . Va., four sisters . Elizabeth Colberton of Chicago , 111., Lucile Manuel of Port Washington , Anna Kopp of Baldwin and Edith Stevenson, of Schnectady, also 7 grand- children. Rites Held for Caw ley 18; Struck Dow n on Montauk Hwy. A Mass ol the Resurrection was siad Tuesday from St. Patrick' s R.C. Church , Bay Shore , for Brian H Cawley, 18, who was struck down by a car during a heavy fog Friday about midnight while standing on Montauk Hwy., near the canal , in Brightwaters. Interment was in St. Patrick' s Cemetery under direction of the Chapey Funeral Home. Police said young Cawley, son of an attorney, had come up from Florida to visit relatives on Gerard Ave , B<jy Shore. He was rushed to the hospital after the accident .but succumbed of multiple injuries at 8:55 a.m. Saturday. The driver of the car , Wilford Baisch , 37 , of 203 West 5th St., Deer Park , was not held. Young Cawley is survived by his parents , Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. P. Cawley ; three sons , Thomas J.P. Ill , James and Justin J; two sisters , Patricia and Mary Elizabeth , and his grandparents , Mr. and Mrs. E- dwin A. Dowling. Salvato re DiNatale Funeral services were held Tuesday from St. Patrick ' s R.C. Church , Bay Shore , for Salavatore DiNatale , 86 , of 7 Rossevelt St., Bay Shore , who died Oct. 15. Burial was in Oak- wood Cemetery . under direction of the C. J. Allgrezza Funeral Home. A native of Italy, Mr. DiNatale had lived in the community for 40 years. He is survived by his widow , Nancy, and a brother , also of Bay Shore. Harry Krisloff Funeral services were held from the Bay Shore Jewish Cemetery Friday fox Harry Krisloff. of Bay Shore , who died Oct. 14. Burial was in Mt. Ararat Cemetery, Farmingdale , under direction of the George H. White Funeral Home. He is survived by his widow , Dora , and a son , Leon. Ursula R. R yan A mass of the Resurrection was said from St. Patrick' s R.C. Church . Bay Shore , Oct . 12 for Ursula C. Ryan , 63 , formerly of Brightwaters . who died at Ft. Meyers , Fla. Oct. 8. He was also an all-league wrestler and was named the most valuable player on the lacrosse team last year , having been the county ' s high scorer Schmidt was praised as being a steady, sturdy player and one who could always be depen ded upon . He was scheduled to go Erie C. Schmidt south shortly to discuss scholarship offers with William and Mary and Washingto n and Lee Colleges. He also had ten- tative offers from other schools , including the U.S. Naval Academy, the University of Pennsy lvania and Duke University. Scholastically Schmidt was in the top fifth of his class , president of the varsity club and had been presiden t of last year of the junior class. In addition to his parents , Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schmidt , Eric is survived by a 14-year-old brother Robin , also a wrestler and the only freshmen on the varsity soccer team.
