Miss Anna Laughin is visiting friends at Hammond. The sadness reached this locality of the death of Will Armor of Pho- nix. Miss Olive Love is visiting friends at Gouverneur and Antwerp. Frank Howie autoed to Ogdens- burg last week. Mrs. Libbie Wilson has returned home after spending the winter in Lowell, Mass. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jones spent Tuesday in Richville. Miss Ruth Jones bpent one day with Wilmea Downing. Mr. and Mrs. Will Neil spent Sat urday in Gouverneur. Mrs. Thomas Raby of Heuvelton, is visiting at the home of Earl Hearst. Mrs. Charles Hyde and daughter are visiting her father who is very ill, in Richville. Mr. and Mrs. Arve Baldwin of Gouverneur visited at the home of J. T. Raven. Mrs. J. T. Fetterly of Morristown, was calling on old friends here the past week. School in the Whalen district was closed Friday for one weeks va cation. Miss Audrey Murton, the teacher, is spending her vacation with relatives at Brasie Corners. Thomas Miller of North Gouver- neur, was a caller at Frank Put- man's Saturday. Sunday visitors at Frank Ward's were: Mr. and Mrs. George Merton, George Sayer and son Chelson. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Higgins and daughter Thehna and son Deane took dinner Sunday at F. E. Turner's at Ruby Corners. Mrs. John Greenwood has been entertaining the measles the past week. Mrs. E.inuii Lawyer is in Ogdens- burg. Mrs. George Merton visited her parents at Brasie Corners Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harvey called at Royal Salisbury's to-day. Owing to an error in reporting the Heuvelton factory meeting last week we got the officers mixed. Salesman Among those who were home for the Easter vacation were: Misses Frances Jenkisson, Nettie Spooner, Doris Dollar, Jerrene Hutchinson, Charlotte Bell, Martha Wright, Mr. Walter Fletcher and Norvin Mc- Cadam. Mrs. Carrie Fleetham and Emer- son Fleetham were visitors at De- peyster Sunday, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Smithers. Committee Wm. Mayne, Arthur Link and Elmer Best. The factory stared off in good shape. Now that war has been declared, prices are being advanced eonsider- eble. A new store-room is being added to the Bee office. Prof. John Blood and family spent their Easter vacation with relatives in town. The Thaw of last week caught cold and the first of this week was below freezing most of the time. Rev. C. E. Hastings will soon leave for the M. E. conference. It is expected that he will be return- ed to this charge for another year. Julus Harder the bridge engineer arrived in town the first of tne week and it is expected the work of finishing the bridge will soon commence. Judge Elbert II. Gary, chairman of the lionrd of directors of the United States Steel corporation, declares his emphatic belief that the women of the United States are every whit as loyal, as patriotic, as self sacrificing and as devoted to their country as their English sisters and just exactly as much entitled to the ballot. \You may quote me in support of that proposition as strongly as you like,\ said Judge Gary. \The women of England have proved their right by their serv- ices and their sacrifices, and it is a just recognition of that fact which comes in the public decla- ration of Mr. Lloyd George.
