Gallup and Tower held notes to the amount. of about $5,000, while there were affoat $20,000 in bonds. 'This indebtedness, yhen overdue, was merged into a new issue of $25,000 worth of five year ponds. The transaction gave the scrap iron people increased confidence, and the credit of the Westerman mill had been better recently than ever before, f The rolls will not turn out the bars of iron to-day. *' The only work done about the mill will be the loading on the cars of the finished bars to fill or- ders. This work which can be done better by the compaany than by the assignee, may delay the assignment a few days. The natural course of the assignee will be to dispose of the loose iron and then shut up the mill, possibly to await a favorable sale. Iron men say the Westerman mill has been playing a losing game from the start. Itis said that the machinery is old fashioned and not fitted to com- pete with modern mills. * The unsecured scrap iron men think their claims are hopeless. The crash will leave the stockholders with value: less shares, although the bulk of the floatation are lighted by incandescent lights. A large sign bearing the words \J. D. Other places are sending delegates for the first time and at present the attendance promises to be the largest in years. Afr. Churchill was asked if he thought all of the visitors would be well accom- modated. He said: \I never have had any doubt that Lockport had ample ac- commodations for all who will come. I only desire to emphasize what I have said to Lockportians before that the one thing the firemen will expect is a square meal. _ In fact they are in the habit of not sleeping much during con- vention week.\ THE OFFICIAL REPORT. Churchill, the State Statistician of the Firemen's Association, has been engaged to report the proceedings of the convention. for the Union-Sun. ° He will make the Union-Sun the official paper of the convention and all jvho wish the best report of the proceedings must not fail to secure the Union-Sun, which is always in the lead. It is the intention to have the whole department go down - together.-Niagara |- Falls Journal. The Electric City Band of Niagara Falls has decided to enter the band con- test with 25 men at the State Firemen's Convention in Lockport. It is a crack musical orgapization and the other bands will have to look to their laurels. The band cantest will be a great musi- cal treat as some of the best bands in the State will take part, including the Citizens Band of Little Falls, N. Y., Electric City Band, Niagara Falls, Nyack Band, Warsaw, N. Y.; Albany City Band, Albany, N. Y., Scinta Band, Buffalo, N. Y. Each band will play an overture, and a march or waltz. The members of the Exempt Fire men's Association of Buffalo, are mak- .Micha;ed Rosenberg, ladderman, had his limbs badly bruised and sprained; he was sent to the Fitch, Charles Schomerstein, ladderman, re- ceived serious contusion on both thighs: and a horrible brush burn on the right thigh, which extends from the knee to the hip; he was sent to the Fitch: Ladderman Fred Jockey sustained a severe concussion of the spine; he wil} probably be crippled for life;, he was sent to the Fitch and afterwards trans- ferred to the Buffalo General Hospital. John F. Clark, the dead fireman, lived. with his family at No. 149 Puffer Street.. He was an old member of the Depart- ment and very popular with his fellow firemen. Trolley car No. 69 was in charge of Conductor Herman Symonds and Motorman James Cowan. At the time of the collision the car was running at its utmost speed, and struck the truck with such force as to completely de- molish the heavy piece of fire apparatus.. They will arrive at Lockport, 10 o'clock Thursday morning, stopping over in Rochester for a few hours, en- route. Friday afternoon they will take part in the parade and expect to march 50 strong, headed by First Assistant Chief Engineer John L. _ Silleck, Second Assistant Engineer Dudley C. Has- brouck and their own officers: Fore man Ernest Coyler; First Assistant Chas. H. Lent and Second Assistant George H. Jewell.
