Althougi the contents of the letter cannot be learned, nor any information as to where it was malled or where it is now, It is certainly known that a letter has been received. This much has been ad- mitted by the friends of the girl, but what explanation she gives for her ac- tion, or whether she confesses having eloped with the Rev. Horace C. Keeley, is not divuiged. , 2 However, the letter is known to have asked that clothing be sent to an ad- dress given, but what this address is cannot be learned. It is doubtful if any- thing further will be done in the matter, 'The charge made in the complaint of abduction might not be upheld by the courts. However, if it should serve to bring the minister back to Millville, the indigngnt people of that place will do the rest without wanrant or authority. Never since ithe murder of innocent little Cora Grimes have the people been so wrought up over anything as they 'are cever this case. 'The indignation does not die out, The people were as excited over the affair when The Ex- press correspondent visited Millville to- «dlay:as they were on Saturday and any- «one who weighs 200 pounds, is 57 years old, has a heavy, light-colored mus- tache, is 5 feet LO incbes tall, has a age, would better ride:mround Millville when touring along the Maple Ridge road, dor fear of a case:-of misplaced identity. About 3:80 o'clock yesterday after- noon the barn of A. C. Campbell on (Clinton Street was completely destrayed by fire. A manure pile back of She barn caught fire from some ashes that had been thrown on dt by a little girl. Four horses and three carriages vere triken out of the barn by some men be- fore the fire got fully under way. The firemen worked hard and saved the, house which was near the barn. The loss on the bain was $1,500 which is fully covered by insurance. A cinder was carried by the wind: from the barn.about a block and drop- ped upon the roof of Edward Blint's house on Main Street which took fire. ' William {Schultz, who was arrested ' a few days since at the Falls, on com- plaint of Miss Lilly Haley for attempt- ed assault, was. given a hearing before Judge Parker yesterday. 'The com- plainant, Miss Hanley, is a domestic in the employ of .F. B. Grill of Erie Ave- nue. Ker testimony was that on the night of June.20, she wanted to go to Buflfalo ind awhile waiting dor :a (ear, she walked deisurely up Erie Avenue. From the corner of Fourth Street a iman walkeU:ilong behind her. Whe.car di not put In.an gppeararce and before she was -amwaré of it she found herself in the vicinity of the power house. Here she stopped to wait. 'The man had fol- lowed lier at some little distance, .and when she halted he approached herand asked if she was;going to Buffalo, she replied curtly in the affirmative and the man continued the conversation and finally made indecent proposals to her. She was thoroughly frightened and started away when the man grabbed her and placing his hand over «her mouth to stifie her cries, threw her 'to the ground. She struggled desperate ly and the man becoming alarmed, fled. Miss Hailey then went to a near- by house and remained all night. . - From her description it was thought that Schultz was the man and the po- lice promptly arrested him. Schultz yesterday denied fll knowledge of the affair and sald 'he was at home that evening, and was mot the man who' nirde the assault, Circumstantial evi- dence was strong «against him, how- ever, and Judge Parker ordered that he be held for the grand jury. Bland. | NO ILL EFFECTS HE SAYS FROM THE FAILURE OF OTHER NA- TTIONS TO CO-OPERATE- BLAND'S PREDICTION. Lebanon, Mo.,July 1.1-Richard Parks Bland, Missouri's candidate for Presi- dent, has just returned from a confer ence at St. Louis with those who are working in his interest. \I do not know that I can add much to my previous expression on the sub- ject of silver,\ he said. \It is generally known that I urgently favor the re- storation of silver as a metal and advo- cate its free, unlimited and unrestrict ed coinage at a ratio of 16 to 1, to be maintained in all respects at a mutual parity with gold. , , \I think the immediate effect of this change would be to improve the indus- trial and commercial condition of the country. I thoroughly believe that the restoration of free coinage would be the salvation of this nation. If the United States were to open their mints to the free and unlimited coinage of silver I think other leading nations will promptly follow the example. \In case the other nations follow or did not follow this example and the United States had to manitain the free coinage of silver alone, I believe no i; effect would be experienced in the} iAinancial contres. My idea is that the; restoration of free coinage would mean - the awakening of trade and allied in- terests, and that prosperity would have uninterrupted progress. \The feeling isall one way. 'The sil- rer idea will dominate the Democratic convention and the silver candidates will be victorious in next fall's elec- tion.\ HARTLAND. Mr. .and Mrs. A. K. BLAVATSKY DENOUNCGED BY THE NATIVE PAPERS-AMERL- CANS TOOK UP A DEAD OSOPHY. Cincinunati, July 1.-J. M. Thoburn, bishop of the Methodist. Church in In- dia, who is in this city, said to-day: Theasophy is a thing of the past in India. It was dropped there about the time it was taken up in America. The pative papers denounced Blavatsky in the most decisive way in the hope that she would sue them for libel and thus give them a chance to expose her in court but she twould never sue. and when they finally got a case in court where they could force her to the wit- ness stand she fled the country,\ Bishop Thoburn said \no\ with em- phasis when asked if he did not be- lieve the silver standard would be- a great thing for this country. ,.. \They have the silver basis in India, have had it for centuries, and it has been given a fair trial, It would ruin this country and bankrupt everybody,\ said the bishop. \The foundation of business is stability, and with a silver standard you can never have it. In Calcutta I can buy a suit of clothes for $40 to-day and perhaps for $20 to-mor- row and the next day it will be $50; You can never tell from the number of «dollars you own 'how much you are worth. 'The country is at the mercy of the money changers and speculators. 'The idea of going to a silver standard 'from a gold one is too ridiculous for serious consideration.
