A large crowd attended the pleasant Children's Day exercises at. the Baptist Church yesterday at 10.30 a. m. The middle seats were reserved for the Sun- day school. - To the strains of a trium- phal march the Sunday school scholars, led by their teachers and superinten- dent, filed in and took the places allotted to them. . * The floral decorations were superb, The pulpit and chancel below the great organ was a mass of paling, potted plants and spring flowers. Each win- dow was decorated in an appropriate manner by one of the Sunday school classes, and togetherpresented a very pretty appearance. - Some of the floral designs were elegant, In the right- hand corner: near the chancel was a playing fountain surrounded by - a bower of ferns, daisies and other sum- mer flowers. - From each chandelier was suspended a bird cage, 'The chorus of feathered vosalists vied with the human singers in making melody and gladness on the happy occasion, The program was opened with sing- Ing by the school, \The Summer Land,\ followed by prayer by the Rev, George 'T, Webb. An \Alphabetical Diaiogue\ by 12 liftle girls ran the course of let- ters in description of the flowers of earth that make it a hint of heaven here below. *Guy Simpson in the reci- tation, \Who would have thought?\ did himself and the school credit. The Misses Mansfield and Harwood sweetly sang, \Some Day, Some Hime.\ A recitation, \June\ was pleasingly rendered by liftle Miss Randolph. | \A Bouquet for Grandma,\ by Wallace Smith, delighted everybody. Singing by the school, \Stepping in the Light,\ closed the exercises in the senior depart- ment. - Perhaps the most entertaining feature of the exercises was the program ren- dered by the primary department, ''The Boys: Resolve,\ by four lads was well performed. Webb deliverd a taking address on \Children's Day.\ He said he could not see how any oue could fail to be hippy on such a joyous occasion, He noticed present not only the Sunday school children, but the fathers, mothers,grandfather and grand- mothers. He proposed, however, to ad- dress his remarks to. the young people. He said no class of society was more im- portant than the boys and girls. He said that too often the girls were recog» at the expense of the boys. ['The girls of a household had all the pretty things, in many instances, and the best rooms, while the boys were a secondary consideration.
