Ranking with the Boston Celtics and New York Yankees in their incredible domination of their competition. As a fillip, their coach, a saintly sort of fellow named John Wooden, has become symbolic of how to win and lose graciously. Exposure on television has helped further these reputations. »UCLA has scored a kind of video grand slam. Its teams are on the tube three different ways each season now: Some games are syndicated coast-to- coast. Then there is the annual NCAA - championship - tour- nament, where UCLA defends its title on network television this week. NBC carries the semifinals and finals Thursday and Saturday from Los An- geles, with Louisville, North Carolina and Florida State the other teams in the playoffs. One of Wooden's former assistants coaches Louisville. The third, and best, way to see UCLA basketball each year on video is to move to Los Angeles. For here we have a rather - remarkable bit - of coverage of a team that has developed countless - absurdly devout fans such as yours truly. A local channel, KTLA, televi- ses every single regular-season UCLA game. Sometimes we get road games, even an occasional home contest, broadcast live. In addition, taped replays of all the home games are shown the same night that they have been played, starting around 11 or 11:30 p.m., after a little warmup show with Wooden. -I don't know whether UCLA's Bruins will win the champion- ship again this week,. Anything. . can happen ina single game.~- But as a year-in, year-out video attraction, they have been amazingly entertaining for a sports buff. Few television series have maintained such consistency. . - Aluminum | Sheets .
