The Ath- letics will play their first four games away before appearing ibe- tore the home town fans. A /break for the Centennial came atoout at the Athletics' sche- dule has them playing at home on Sunday, July 4th and Monday, the 5th, two of the three days of the Centennial Celebration. A meeting of the ofieers and com- mittees of the Athletics was held in ithe Elks Club Monday night with George Fowler presiding. Season tickets went on sale and anyone who is interested in pur- chasing a season ticket .may .con- tact any member of the Athletics central committee. A new player to Lowville fans has joined the cluh and at the first practice Sunday looked as if he will please the most critical. Dave Griffiths of Hamsville, will hold down the shortstop slot and his'showing in practice receiv- ed the plaudnts of the team mates and coach. Rip Wardell will coach and manage this year's team and the team is determined tto (bring home league honors for Rip. Independents Win Lowville Bowling Honors After Tie The Lowville Independents are champions of the Lowville com- munity bowling league for 1953-54 having defeated the Glenfield Hor. nets, winners of the second half, 2,992 to 2,899, in a final .match for total pins. Three teams, ithe Hornets, Bush & Sons, and Ver's Grill, were tied for first <plaee at the end of the second half of league competition A bowl-off for total pins was held to ibreak the tie and the Hornets won, with a 3,016 score Bush & Sons had 3,001, while Ver's tallied 2,793. The Independents had won the first half of league competition In the final championship match, the Independents rolled the high team single with 1,074, and Al Law- rence had both high individual triple and single scores with 583 and 215, respectively. BAPTIST CHURCH NOTES— Mother's Day at The Lowville Baptist Church will observe with a special service of worshiip at 10:30 A. M. The Cherub choir will sing as well as the Junior and Senior choirs.
