Eva Glacier, of Burrs Mills; Walter Bates, of Corning, attended th« funeral of Mre Ida Bates Lucas, Wednesday. Monday, April 9th, occurred tire death of Ida Bates Lucas at her home in thle village, after a brief Illness of pneu- monia. The dfeceased was born at Cameron MiLto, Steuben, coUDty, Apri 10, 1851, daughter of Mary and) Augue tua Bates. Her father died at the out break of the Civil wax, while- in training to become a soldier. This made it nec- essary that the family be- moved to Lewis county, where the mother joined several sisters. The deceased was united in marriage March 13, 1878, to John J. Lucas, oJ Barnes Corners, where they have since resided. 8hie> was devoutediy (attached to her home, and- although she hadi been in falling* health for the last flew years, many who entered there found her optimistic and) always trying' to look on the bright side of life, a virtue worthy of emulation. By her quiet, unassum- ing manner ehe endeared herself to a wldte circle of friends, and she gained and) held the respect off all who met her. Always trustworthy as a friend and neighbor, h-er influence will long remain potent for good. Her memory will be cherished by all who have known her. She was an affectionate wife and mother, always seeking to do something- for their benefit and her loss will be keenly felt. She is survived by her husband, John J.° Lucas; one- soni, Guy, who has always lived/ at home; one. daughter, Maud Lucas Root, who resides In Hornell; one brother. Walter B. Bates, of Corning. The funeral was heidi from the home Wednesday, April 11th, at 2 p. m., Rev. L. W. Rose, pastor of the M. E. church officiating. The bearers were Guy Lucas O. Stanley Lucas, Clarence Root and J. J. Allen. The floral offerings were beau- tiful and) gave elliesu testimony of the regard) in which the departed was held. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community in this hour of their dJeerp sorrow. Interment in Evergreen cemetery. The Times says: A special meeting of the Walertown Produce Exchange was held at the Woodruff hotel on Saturday. It was the first meeting of the seaeqn and was well attended by buyers arid ea'iesmen. The first official 1 meeting will be heW! on. th« first Saturday in May, but as the factories open- about the first of April it Is customary for the president to call special meetings before the regu- lar data for opening. Another meeting will be held, next Saturday. ARer the first meeting the price com- mittee met but after a prolonged session were unable to agree upon a basic price. The buyers upon the committee were only willing to make a prlce« of 19 cents the salesmen held out for 20. As a result; the committee reported at the sec- ond B«sslon< of the board! a disagreement.
