Saturday, Jan. 20 Elks Hoop Shoot Contest ^Youngsters in the Gouverneur area are invited to compete in the annual Hoop Shoot\ sponsored by the Gouverneur Elks Lodge, starting at 10 a.m. in the Gouverneur High School gymnasium. Prizes will be awarded for top achievers in ages 8- 9,10-11, and 12-13, as of April 1,1990, in both boys and girls categories. Contestants from Gouverneur, Harmon-DeKalb, Indian River, Clifton-Fine and Edwards-Knox are invited to register before 10 a.m. on Jan. 20 and to bring proof of age. Refreshments will be served and prizes will be awarded. Sunday, Jan. 21 Fishing Derby Set OXBOW—The Oxbow Fire Department will spon- sor a fishing derby on Yellow Lake from 5-4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 21. First prize will be $100, with many other prizes awarded. There is a $3 entry fee for children under 14 free for perch fishing only. Food will be available on ht lake. Minnows and sign-in will be at Chip's Bait in Oxbow and also on the lake. Proceeds will benefit the Oxbow Fire Department. North Gouverneur By Ruth Hurlbut It seems good to have it a little warmer and better traveling on the roads. We do need more sunshine. Hope everyone has got over the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. James Lenahan visited Mr. and Mrs. Adam Sullivan. Keith and Ilene Tyler spent one afternoon visit- ing Adam and Doris Sulli- van. .Adain and Doris SuVU- van on their way to visit others stopped in to have a visit with Burr and Ruth Hurlbut. They made us very happy to have a nice visit with them. Mrs. Carl Streeter re- turned from the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital on Wednesday, after having a hip replacement. Carl Streeter had a bad case of pneumonia and Tom Kelley of DePeyster had to do his milking. We are glad he is better and able to be out again. Mrs. Wallace Hurlbut spent last weekend in Rochester to see her doc- tor about her eye. Laurie Hurlbut drove for her. They stopped by and we had a good visit. Sorry to hear of the death of Arnold Bush. Sympathy goes to his wife and many others. Mrs. Kathy Priest is back to work at Corning after two weeks vacation during the holidays. The Rock Island 4-H Club met at the church last Monday evening for a regular meeting. On Dec. 21, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Leonard and daugh- ter Dusty Jo, Mrs. Deana Doss and Mrs. Sherry Brown, all of Fort Worth, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Chris- topher Gaw of Fayettev- ille, North Carolina, ar- rived at their parents home, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Finley. They stayed one week visiting in our cold wi ater area, before return- ing to their own homes on Dec. 28. Flu Immunization Clinics P The St. Lawrence County Public Health Nursing Service, as part of its Preventative Health Care Program, will offer flu immunizations to all persons over the age of 55. Persons under 55 with a chronic medical problem (such as diabetes, heart, lung or kidney disease) \ may receive the vaccine with a written order from * their physician. Persons with known allergies to eggs, chicken, chicken feathers or chicken dander . should receive the vaccine from their physician. Parking Ban Residents of the Village of Gouverneur are re- minded that parking is prohibited on village streets from 2-6 p.m., Nov. 15 through April 15. Residents • are urged to comply with this local law to help the village facilitate its snow removal operations. Viola- tors of this parkingban will be ticketed. The ban also applies to parking between the sidewalk and the curb.
