This is a change from the usual 9 a.m. -5 p.m. hours, and is being done on a trial basis. Christmas Concert Rehearsals Rehearsals for the Community Chorus Christmas Concert are continuing at the First Presbyterian Church, 22 Church St., on Sunday afternoons from 3-5 p.m., under the direction of Dan Mosher. The children's choir meets at 2:30 p.m., along with the bell choir. The concert is slated for 4 p.m., Dec. 10 at the First Presbyterian Church. After School Program Planned at West Side Every Week ' West Side School has received a grant to run an after school program for the students of West Side School. Two years ago, parents and staff set up a successful activity pro- jgramr-Thi9 proposed gro- gram will be s«p^ewtet similar to that. _„_ ; ?rv The philosophy of the program is to raise the children's self-esteem by helping them experience success in a non-academic setting. This program will take place at West Side School in Gouverneur from January to May. Activity sessions will be offered two days a week from 3-5 p.m. The activities will include seven or eight of the most popular as indicated on a May survey given to all students in third, fourth, and fifth grades at West Side School. These activi- ties include computer lit- eracy, video recording, intramural sports, cook- ing, baby sitting skills, wood working, and clay sculpting, knitting, drama club, art, painting, and dancing. The instructor will offer the same activity four times a week, for one hour per session. The children will attend one activity session and then move on to a second one they have selected. A counselor will be available to do esteem raising activities with the group, as well as to see students on an individual basis should this be deemed necessary. . —. The school is looking for seven instructors and a counselor who are willing to make a commitment -from January until May. Instructors musibe com- petent in one of these ar- eas (or another similar one), with a desire and ability to work with chil- dren, and be willing to provide instruction to two .groups of eight children per day, two days a week, instructors will also par- ticipate in parent meet- ings and activities. A de- gree is not required for this job. A stipend of $600 will be offered. The counselor must have a master's degree in counseling, social work or related field. He/she will provide services to each child on a regular basis, and provide work shops for parents focusing on child development, and parent- ing skills. A stipend of $1,000 will be offered for this job. Applicants for either position, are asked to call (287-3200) or stop in at West Side School. The deadline for applications is Nov. 30. Parking Ban Residents of the Village of Gouverneur are re- minded that parking is prohibited on village streets from 2 -6 a.m., Nov. 15 through April 15. Residents are urged to comply with this local law to help the village facilitate its snow removal operations. Vio- lators of this parking ban will be ticketed. Head Injury Support Group The North Country Head Injury Support Group of the New York State Head Injury Association meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m., in the conference room at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Women's Self-Help Group to Meet A facilitated self-help group for women surivivors of child abuse began Oct. 18, and will continue for the next 10 weeks. Immunization Clinic St. Lawrence County Public Health Nursing Serv- ice has scheduled an immunization clinic for pre- school children and Parent/Child Health Counsel- ing (PACH). Triple vaccine (diptheria-tetanus-whoop ing cough), Sabin oral polio vaccine, measles, mumps, and ru- bella vaccine and Hib vaccine (for meningitis) will be given.
