The party was a barbecue at the home of their daughter, Mrs. John (Diane) Manson on the Rossie - Brasie Corners Road. Those who attended were Mrs. Bowman's brother, Charles Shamp- ine and wife Keiko, daugh- ter Jane/Pratt and three daughters of Harrisville, her sister, Elsie Waters and son Mark, grandson Mark and granddaughter Darcy. Also her sister, Isabelle Lewis from the tVoy area and Jane Pratt ofMechanicville. . .Those of Mr. Bowman's family were his brother Leo and wife Vera from Theresa, his niece and husband Mr. and Mrs. Bob Eggleston, also of Ther- esa. His niece Joyce Ogradnik and Phyllis from Harrisville. Lila and Ar- nold from Cato and Betty Bowman, Gouverneur. . The Bowman children present were Marie and James McCarthy, and children, Robert and Tina and Mike, Billy, Brian and Peggy from Mexico; Jan- ice and husband Ron Arnold and son Dwayne and daughter Penny Ste- vens and children Amy, KiinLcrly and Brande of Syracuse; Calvin and . Mr. and Mrs. James Simons Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Murray Simons Sr. attended the wedding of Kim Farrell and John •Fleming at St. Mary's Cathedral in Ogdensburg. The reception was held in the K of C Hall. Recent guests in their parent's home were Jamie Simons of Watertown and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Clemons of Ft. Drum. It was Chuck's 21st birth- day and a birthday cake was served at supper. • : Mr. and Mrs. Rex Hen- dricks of Van Lue, Ohio, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bauer of Fostena, Ohio, spent their vacation with their sister, Mrs. Carrie Frizzell.andMr. Frizzell. Their niece, Patsy, also came. Recent Sunday visitors in the Murray Simons Sr. home were Christy's par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Drake Mrs. William Malov and Mrs Frances Gardner were Watertown visitors, recently. They also called on Shirley's daughter, Kelly. Nick -and Elizabeth Gardner visited their grandmother and uncle Gary recently. They did many chores and stayed overnight. Frances and Gary were supper guests of the Char- les Gardner family Sun- day. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stephenson and two daughters visited Sally's parents, the Leslie Van Tassels in Theresa, Sun- day. Weekend guests in the Ray Stephenson home were Mr. and Mrs. Ron Soule and Sam Stephen- son of Red Creek. They celebrated Bobbi Jo's 20th \birthday which was Sept. 20. They also visited Mrs. Ward in Theresa where they visited with Dorothy's mother, sisters and broth- ers. Jean Manning spent a recent evening with her niece, Mrs. Kevin Davis, and son Kraig. Recent supper guests of George Knight and Jean Manning was the Kevin Davis family. Mrs. Knight was absent as she works the evening shift. . . Mrs. George Knight, Mrs. Jean Manning, Mrs. Bill Berard and friend Bertha, attended the Ricky Von Shelton pro- gram at Bonnie Castle Stables. \. • • Sunday morning visi- tors in the George Knight home were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Knight and baby and Mrs. Kevin Davis and Kraig. On the evening of Sept. 14, a retirement dinner and party was held at the Admiral's Inn for Jean Manning, who is retiring from the position of head housekeeper at Alex Bay Noble Hospital. In the midst of the dinner, a call was received at the hospi- tal that a bomb was in the building. All the employ- ees attending the dinner were called. Franticly they worked to get all the patients out ofthebuildingand sent to the school. School buses, ambulances and private cars transferred the pa- tients. Mats were placed on the gym floor and pa- tients were made as com- fortable as possible. Ev- eryone able assisted in the transfer. They had just got them all settled when the \all clear w message came and all patients were transferred back. In reporting it, Mrs. Wanda Davis said it was bedlam but everything was kept in order. One patient in ICU was sent to Watertown. Wanda's grandfather, Ben Butler, a patient in the nursing home, was bewildered and is now suffering from a severe cold. The dinner was called off and the entertainment was canceled. A great dis- appointment but all are thankful it was a false alarm What type of per- son would sink so low 0 Members of the Morris- town Foundation Board spent a recent afternoon at the home of Elwood Simons. He was in Mexico for a dentist appointment and then entertained the Oxbow Historical Society for their first meeting of the new season. Herman Petrie recently celebrated a birthday. He and Mrs. Petrie were guests of Elwood Simons at the Eastern Star tur- key supper in DePeyster as a part of his celebra- tion. Mrs. Carrie Ferris of Heuvelton and Mrs. Mar- garet Poor of DePeyster were luncheon guests at the home of Elwood Si- mons. Mrs. Ferris, who recently celebrated her 85th birthday, is looking forward to going deer huntingthisfall seasonas she has done for a life time. Mr. and Mrs. Murlyn Harris, Jr. were luncheon guests of Elwood Simons as all three spent the day in Ogdensburg, returning home through Amish country. Elwood Simons recently called on Jessie O'Hara in Wegatchie. He also spent an evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Youngs. . Marjorie Ellis recently' accompanied her sister, Mrs. Norma Youngs to Gouverneur, where she consulted a doctor con- cerning her lame back. Later she accompanied 'Bonnie Petrie to Pope Mills. Several weeks ago Mrs. •Robert Walsh spent two days with her daughter, Christine, in Oswego. Christine spent a recent weekend with the family here. . Clifford Youngs, a 25- year member of Local 545 of the International Oper- ating Engineers, received -a belt-buckle. The meet- ing was held July 14 in Syracuse but Cliff was unable to attend and the commemorative buckle was mailed to him along with a 25-year lapel pin and a letter of congratula-' tions. We join in congratu- latinghim. Mrs. Keitba Youngs' recently came home from the hospital slightly im- proved. Guests in the Youngs home were Ger- ald McCue, Elwood Si mons, Keitha's sister Cyrene and husband, Larry Gerber of Natural Bridge, and Clifford's brother Lynn and wife Norma. . On Sept. 16, Carmel Rastley began an eight- session class at St. Law- rence University in Can- ton through a program offered for Gouverneur High Talented Juniors. She and her best friend. Amanda Van Ornum, en- joyed the experience. Mike called Sept. 16 evening from RIP in Trey. He is enrolled in the electrical engineer program and finds his classes very chal- lenging. Rosanne called Sept 17 from Canton Col- lege of Technology' and reports she is doing well. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Marcellus received a call from their son Terry and family recently. They live in Hesperia, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Marcellus recently had lunch at the Home Res- taurant, Hammond. They attended calling hours for Mrs. Worth (Gertrude) Tibbies. The Tibbies lived on the River Road, a number of years ago and at one time farmed on one of the Marcellus 1 farms. On Sept. 18, Mrs. Leo Rastley accompanied Sharon Cole to Watertown where Mrs. Cole had a test on her hip and back. On Sunday, Sept. 17, Mrs. Douglas (Alice) Wel- don, called on her sister, .Mrs. Lona Youngs, for a visit and a cup of coffee. A bazaar sponsored by the Presbyterian ladies of -the Rossie church will be •held Friday from 2 p.m. 'featuring -a luncheon, rummage sale, table of •crafts and new items. •Beginningat 10a.m. a beef stew dinner will be served. It wilLbe held at the Rossie Community Center. Ev- eryone is invited. On Tuesday evening, Sept. 19, Chad Evans cele- brated his 10th birthday.
