For relays, the scores go from first to third, 8-4-2, and for indi- vidual events, 6-4-3-2-1. But for four-lane pools the scoringisdifferent. Relays only are from first to third, 6-3-1 and individually, 4- 2-1. The schools with four lanes are Salmon River, Malone, St. Lawrence Central, and Massena. . The Cats have a bye this next weekend, and will next be in action on October 14th when they will host Carthage at 1 30. Saturday's score may be a little deceiving as the Cats played the Huskies tough, and except for a couple ofbad breaks had a shot at a win. The first bad break came in the first half when Gouverneur lost the league's top punter Nate Leach to an injury Poor punts in the third penod set up three Hu&kie touch- downs that pat the game out of reach. The second bad break came at the beginning of the second half Trailing 12-6. Corey Sipher received the open- ingkickofTof the half, and returned it 79yardsfor an apparent touchdown that would have tied the score. The play was nullified, and the ball brought back. At that point, Gouverneur was unable to move the ball, punted poorly, and the rout was on. Malone opened the scor- ing in the first quarter as Keith Smith scored from two yards out In the sec- ond quarter, Malone made it 12-0 as Brad Scott busted in from one yard out Gouverneur made its best sustained drive of the ieBfton as they then marched 79 yardi for a touchdown Dan Parshley made the tally as he went in from one yard out The half ended with Malone on topl2-€ The third quarter was disaster for Gouverneur after the Sipher kick off return was nullified. *n*rte short pants set up three Huskies TDs as Keith Smith scored from 24 yards out, Rob Perry- scored from twoyards, and a 38-yard halfback option pass from Kevin Taylor to Perry all scored in the period. The Huskies then coasted to their second win of the season while Gou- verneur went to 0-3. The Gouverneur Junior Varsity suffered their sec- ond consecutive defeat as they lost in Watertown on Friday afternoon by a score of 20-6 A key to this game as with the varsity contest was a Gouverneur touchdown that was called back in the first half by a* penalty. The Junior Var- sity will be in action this Friday when they host Potsdam Th* Pctsdsrr. Junior Varsity has a 1-2 record on the season.
