\ Special board election held at Clifton-Fine Page I Sec. The Tribune-Press, Gouvfrnrur, N.V November 28, 197 i *By Kvelyn McCarthy The Clifton-Fme .School district held a special election Nov 19 for the purpose of filling two vacancies on the school board, caused by the recent death of (leurne Reynolds of Cranberry I^ike and the resignation of Wanda Burgess of Star I-aktv Candidates to fill one vacancy were Krnest Ciiraud of Cranberry Lake and Charles Martin of Wanakena Mr Martin won the votes for that seat Martin is a faculty member of the Wanakena New York State Hanger School and is familiar with educational problems of displine, budget items, curriculum, etc. A resident of the area for 12 years and aware of the im- portance of education, he also is a property owner and tax payer with two children at- tending Clifton-Fine Central School. Filling the other vacancy is Richard Laurin who was unopposed. Laurin is Executive Director of the St. Lawrence Seaway Rehabilitation Center at Hermon and was a teacher at Clifton - Fine Central School in Star Lake for a few years prior to accepting the position at Hermon about five years ago. The Laurin home is situated near Clifton-Fine Hospital and a short distance from the school. There are four children, two of whom attend CF School. The Laurin's have hosted several foster children and after spending Thanksgiving- vacation in Vermont, they went to LaGuardia Field in New York where they had arranged to meet a five year old child from Peru who will live at their home while the child is under medical care in the U.S. The Senior Citizen Club met for its regular monthly session at the social rooms in St. Hubert's Church on Tuesday evening, Nov. 19. Klien Colloca, Lucy Strate, and Kva Norton Johnstown Road News Membership drive being held by VFW Ladies Auxiliary The ladies Auxiliary to Silas Wainwright Post 6338 is again holding the annual membership drive, according to President Marjorie Gib- son. All members paying dues at this time will be charged the initial $3.50 per card. After Jan. 1, 1974, ac- cording to National Headquarters, a fifty cent increase will be charged. State President Mary A. Schaefer, in a letter to the local auxiliary said that all auxiliaries in the Department of New York who attain 100 per cent membership by May 31, 1974 will receive a citation from the National President. Any member obtaining five or more new members will receive a braclet charm from the National Membership Chairman Mrs. Rosalie McEathron and Mrs. Kathy Masters are co-chairman for the drive and dues may be left at the local club rooms.
