While in Europe the Surzaca were In Arn- hem, Holland; Brussels, Bel- glum; London, England; Paris, Prance and Naples and Rome, Italy. Memorial service• were held in Holland (or the dead vet- erans of cbe 82nd and at Anzlo cemetery in Italy for those vet- erans who died at Anzlo. While In Rome, the Surzecs had a private audience with Pope Paul at Vatican City. Pour days were spent at St. Mere Eg Use, Prance, the first village liberated during World War U. At the church In &. Mere EgUse, Pather Connelly, a chaplain who served with the 82nd during the war, offered MASS and a stained glass win- dow was dedicated by the citi- zens of the village in honor of the 82nd Airborne Division. On June 6 the Starzecs attended services on Utah and Omaha Beach at Normandy in memory of the landing on D-Day June 6, 1944. Six countries had sentatives at the ceremonies and the first flag to be raised was the American Flag. Mr. and Mrs, Star zee returned to the United States on June 7. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brldgeland and family returned to Rochester Monday after spending several days here. While here they vis- ited Mrs. Bower Watson, Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Jones and family and Mr, and Mrs. Harold Gotham Jr. and family. James Bridgeland entered the House of the Good Samaritan Hospital in Watertown Monday and underwent eye surgery Tues- day. Mrs* Bridgeland is spending a few days with Mr* and Mrs. Dtryl Walton at Black River. Several families met at the local school house building Sun- day for a picnic dinner. The Rossie Route 1 or Ham- mond Route 3 mail route has been extended on the Butler road as far as the Ben Butler home. This will be a pleasant service for the families living on this entension. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Petrie called on Mrs. Roy Whitney and Betty Bacon, who are camping on Black Lake, on August 6. They also visited Roy Whitney, who is a patient in Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg. Dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Petrie on Aug. 6 were Rev. Steven Kenney, Oxbow, and Ann Huey. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Chap- man, Baidwinsville, have moved into the former Leo Mullin home. They will be living there per- manently, Mr, and Mrs. Charles Record, Cazenovla are spending a few days at their cottage on the Indian River.
