Haw- kins and her sister, Miss Arhe Ferris, at Mrs. Hawkins' home. M. E. Roberts has purchased the in- terest of W. T. Thayer in the Journal Publishing Co., of Chateaugay, and the paper will hereafter be under the management of A. W. Roberts, who has been in the ejpploy of the Journal Co. for sometime and. is a man ,of con- siderable experience as a loeal writer. The annual entertainment of the Brushton High School will be held this year on Thursday evening, December 22nd, in the Quinn opera house. The entertainment will consist of recitations, vocal and instrumental solos, as here- tofore, the soldiers chorus from Faust, a scarf drill by young ladiey, a panto- mm.e from Miles Standish, and the trial scene from the Merchant of Venice. The New York Central has purchas^' ed the JSTew York & Ottawa railroad, connecting Ottawa and Tupper Lake, a distance of 128 miles, the price being in the neighborhood of |2,000,000. In the museum connected with the Edinburgh .university is an exhibit that is a striking object lesson of the value of fresh air. A professor has secured the lungs of an Eskimo, a Londoner and a coal miner. t He has had them-preserved by chemical proc- ess, and thpy are now side by side in a glass case. The .Eskimo's lungs are pure white, the Londoner s lungs are a dirty brown, and. the coal miner's lungs are jet black. The Eskimo had kept his lungs clean not because he knew \ more about breathing than the Lon- doner or the coal miner, but because he lived in a land of snow fields and spent his time in the open air.
