A visitor to the New York headquar- ters of a detective agency noticed a large map of the United States profusely dec- orated with little flags, a few of them red, but most of them white, says the Sun. \Looks like a war map,\ commented the visitor. \AD4 most of the fighting seems to be in the middle west.\ \That's our bank robbery map/' ex- plained \the head 1 of that particular de- partment. \It's a little scheme of my own. \The red flags mark robberies in. banks belonging to the association that retains us. Tae white flags represent robberies in banks that are not members of this association. Each flag is Inscribed with, the details of the robbery it represents. The map is corrected from day to day, and it gives us a pretty fair Idea of the general situation at a glance. We keep it hanging on the wall there throughout the bank robbery season.\ \The bank robbery season?\ \Yes. That begins about September 1, when the nights begin to get long. There's comparatively little safe'crack- ing out ,of season, wnen tlie nights are short.
