Advocates of reciprocity witfr Canad* are urging this country to secure the magnificent market\ of-the Dominion. It is, of course, mutually advantageous to cultivate friendly trade relations be- tween neighbors, ancl our people realize that fact as well as anybody. But it must be remembered that the \magnifi- cent market\\ f& not on one side of the border. Canada unquestionable has a great many things which she would like to sell us. On the other hand Canada finds over here a vast array of products such as she wants to buy. A thinly settled region with but 6,000,000 population can hardly be expected, to excel adjoining territory inhabited by 80,000,000 hustlers.—Troy \Times.\ Probably every newspaper editor is frequently confronted with some rumor, stated as a fact, and asked to publish it. WhiWnewspapermenjare always anxious to get hold of all the news they can, rumors are not the kind of material that reliable newspapers can tie to, and when they chance to do it they are liable to do great injustice. There is nothing so valuable to a newspaper man as good judgement of the matter that is permitted in his colums: and let him do the best he may he'is sometimes misled into doing injustice. The conscientious editor de- sires to publish facts and. facts only. He never wishes to shield crime, in any form from exposure, but he; does desire, above everything else, to be l charitable in bis dealing with- the public, and' give the better side of Jife the- preference rather than the opposite. r Human nature- weak, and no one is free from faults, and that t should lead to charity in our feelings toward our fellow men, whether in the capacity of a newspaper \editor or in other life. A novelty in colleges is at Valparaiso, Indiana. There are four thousand pupils. The college year is divided into five terms of ten weeks each. There are no holidays. Eecitation hours are front 6.30 a. m. until noon, from 1 until 6 p. m. and 7 until 9. Examinations are held Saturdays, Subjects the most in demand are repeated every term in the year, so that if a student stops out a term to teach school or work on a farm, he can return and go on where he left off. Those whq go the full time attend fifty weeks in a year instead of thirty six, as in most schools. The leading teachers are not cheap men, but get high- er salaries than the average Indiana university professor. CHILDREN POISONED.
