Black of Buffalo, director of Spruce- lands camp in Allegany State Park, are expected to be moved to the fair grounds within a week. Club members anticipate the race track will provide an iddal' place in which to instruct beginners, and the long barn with clay floor Will be' used during the winter, when instruc tion in jumping will be given. The level terrain around the fairgrounds, it was decided, would prove suitable for those wishing to ski behind a fast-moving horse. Schwone, who died Saturday, was held from the Hunt Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon. The 'Rev. Rus sell Moore, officiated. ‘Burial was made in the family’ plot in Wild wood cemetery. Mr. Schwone, aged 7.6, was for merly a plum'ber with Andrews Hardware store, and his death fol lowed an illness of the past several years. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. F. E. Turnbaugh and Mrs. Clif ford MtDermott, of Tulsa, Okla.; and Mrs. John Arado of 'Chicago; and by one son, Herman Schwone of Youngsville, Ohio. While' no official statement on the crash has been made public yet by the CAA inspector, other flyers’ at the Little Valley airport Said that the plane’s loss of air speed while coming in for a landing downwind probably caused the crash. The wind at the time was from the west. The field slopes up to the east, so that the plane was Coming in downwind for an uphill landing, a normal maneuver. Early examination of the wreckage did not disclose whether the plane might have run out of gas. The auxiliary tank was dry, as was the main tank, but a hole had been punched through the main tank In the crash, large enough to have drained it quickly. John Sharpe, a deputy sheriff, told the CAA inspector that gasoline fumes were noticeahle about the wreckage when he arrived. The dry soil would have soaked up any leak ing gasoline quickly. Dr. Preston started flying about fifteen months ago when h e join ^ the Valley Plying club. He qualified for a private pilot’s license on August 7 and has a record of ninety hours of solo flying experience, He purchased the plane last March jointly -with Phillip T. Champlin of Little Valley, president of the Val ley Plying club. It was a red and yellow Cub coupe, bearing the regis tration number NC26155. It was equipped with dual controls, but they were disengaged, at the time of the accident. , Marriner join ^ the flying club about the first of this year,^ took his first lessons in March and had ,been doing nrore flying during the sum mer. Addison Locke W ins A d v a n c e m e n t Upon the basis of a competitive civil service examination, and pre vious experience^ Addison Locke of Randolph has .been appointed senior engineer’s helper with the New York State transit division in the New York City area. ‘ Mr. Locke is the son of -Supervis- and Mrs. Harry Locke o f Ran dolph. The position is considered an ex cellent, one, especially since the op- ;portunities for promotion are con sidered good. This is said to he the first time in eight' or ten years that candidates have been accepted for the New York area from the state as a whole. Mr. Locke was the only candidate to take the examination in the Jamestown area. -Before being permitted -bo take the examination, it was necessary for candidates to prove they posses sed the training and experience nec essitated by the work. Mr, Locke is graduate of Tri-State College of Angola, Ifld. Following Ms gradua tion he worked fo r - a private con tractor for a time and later ’^ s em ployed by the American Telephone & Telegraph Company. For several yeart he had been employed in the highway department -of Cattaraugus County. -
